Hi, I'm just getting into Warhammer Fantasy with Lizardmen as my first army.
Do Temple Guard have a 4+ or 3+ armour save when they are equiped with hand weapons and shields?
thx

TG have a special weapon the halberd, in close combat they use that and have a 4+ armor save.
When getting shot at they benefit from their shields too and get a 3+.

You do have the option of declaring that you are fighting with hand weapon and shield when entering the combat and have a 3+ then with a parry save. But you're giving up the +1 strength of the halberd. Both are good ways, just according to what you're fighting.

Well, what i really wanted to ask is if in this instance the light armour stacks with the scaly skin (5+)
Thx

You actually do not get an option to choose hand weapon and shield when you have a special weapon. They must always use the halberd when in close combat.

LIES!!!
The rulebook clearly states that a model that has a special weapon will allways use tha weapon in prefference to a hand weapon, and will use a magical weapon in a prefference to both.

Hoverboy is, as ever, correct on the requirement to use the Halberd while in CC
Scaly Skin DOES stack with armour of any form, again covered in the BRB

Hmmm... I am wrong I looked it up. I must have carried that over form a previous edition.
That being said I can't help but feel this is a wildly stupid rules modification on their part. I read the "trained with a single weapon" explanation in the rule book and am baffled since this is not at all what can be referenced in ancient warfare.

Come over to my house, we'll play it the other way, LOL!

I agree that the rule is complete hokum. Every model in the game has a hand weapon, but clearly if you have a halberd and a shield, you drop the shield and forget about your sword...
This along with losing ASF on the charge make no sense at all.

No ASF on the charge makes sense from a balance perspective. I mean, how would you like my ogres to whack your chaos warriors first if I get the charge off in addition to my impact hits?
But I do agree on the hand weapon shield thing. You should be able to choose what you are using.

So your infantry should hit before cavalry with lances?

its not a perfect system, but it is better then a blanket ASF bonus.
Cavelry do need a boost though. Maybe if charging cavlery got +2 inititive. Alternativly I could maybe justify them getting ASF on the charge. Extra speed and imputus of the charge and all.

It was *never* ASF on the charge, but "SF" - ASF > SF > normal Init > SL > ASL, from 7th.
This is a much clearer system.
