The composition size of Wolf Guard is 3-10; however, Wolf Guard can be split off to act as Pack Leaders for other units.

Question is, if I start the game with 4 Wolf Guard, and then split off 2 to act as pack leaders. Is the remaining Wolf Guard unit of 2 still a legitimate unit? Or should there still be at least 3 Wolf Guard. In other words, if I know I am going to split off two Wolf Guard as pack leaders, should I plan for an initial Wolf Guard unit of 5, so that once the 2 leave, I still have a unit of 3?

Thanks.

The unit is still legitimate if it has 1 or it has 9.

3 Wolf Guard is the unit composition in regards to how you buy them. They don't suddenly become invalid if they drop to 1 because of splitting off Wolf Guard. If that was the case, all units would become somehow invalid as soon as they dropped below their starting strength.

Having a single Wolf Guard running around all by his lonesome because his buddies got split off is perfetly legal. Just be aware that he'll be giving the enemy a KP as soon as he bites it.

At least he won't take a lot of morale checks and can always regroup!

Which is why there's no sense in buying more WG than you need to send off leading squads. Unless you really want to have Arjac all alone in a Land Raider. ;-)

A single cyclone termie poking around your backfield taking sniping shots in a non-killpoint game is pretty fantastic I think.
