Hey guys i was just wondering what you guys thought about the imperial armour books by forgeworld. I have always been interested by them ut i DONT understand them. What are they for? special campaign games with your friends? updates to warhamemr 40k or updates to warhammer 40k apocalypse? I think they must be updates to 40k apocalypse, but i just dont know. Any thoughts?

Imperial Armor books add things. Probably the most important are the data sheets that are included for the forgeworld models. There are also army lists and rules for special factions, most notably DKoK. They also include tons of additional fluff, and some scenarios as well.

The Vraks War was great and everything a war with Chaos should be like: it starts subtly and quickly escalates to not only includes CSM but also renegades, heretics, cultants, mutants, traitor titans, and eventually Daemons.

My Armies:
5,500pts
2,700pts
2,000pts

But the question remains. What are they used for? Apoc? 40K?

Both. Obviously some of the units found in IA are really only suitable for Apocalypse but you can use a lot of what you'll find in IA for regular games. There are army lists for armies like Death Korp of Krieg which can be fielded in regular games or used for Apocalypse.

One thing is though, from my experience, tournaments don't always allow use of Forgeworld rules/lists, especially official GW UK tournament.

FW and the IA are usaully for campaign games, painting, adding details and fun games.

For instance, I'm looking to pick up a Necron Tomb stalker, However I can expect to never field it in a tourny, and I can expect some opponents not to let me use it. But I'll get it because it's such a kick ass piece.

They either add new army lists which reference existing codices for existing units as well as add brand new units, or add individual units which expand codex lists.

They are for both Apocalypse and 40k. Fliers, Gargantuan creatures and Superheavy vehicles are only for Apocalypse games, normal units are for regular 40k.

Their tournament legality is merely absed on the fact that Tournament Organisers can shoose what they want to allow, and the majority don't allow units or army lists by Forgeworld. They are official, in that they are published by GW, and carry the Warhammer 40,000 Supplement tag. Like all supplements, ask your opponent beforehand, as they are not core rules.

What people often forget is that IA books don't just introduce new army lists and units to 40k, they also include a back story of certain feature armies and has a back story of a certain campaign that those armies are undergoing.

I.e. IA5-7 involves the Vraks campaign featuring chaos and imperium while IA-9-10 features the Badab War campaign with space marines vs space marines story.
