New Year's is coming up, but it's still a little bit early to write resolutions. When
I do, I tend to put it to my user profile and my blog. You can see how to do this
here:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Add_Your_New_Year%27s_Resolutions_to_Your_User_Profile

So let's have a discussion about how 2011 went for you, hobby/game-wise.

Anyway, here's how I did:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/User:malfred#New_Year%27s_Gaming_Resolutions_2011-2012

Painting and Modeling

Teach my nieces and nephews how to paint using re-based and primered Mage Knight figures.
Learn how to paint a more neutral kind of green.
Create at least three water hazard type of terrain pieces.
Create 10+ trench templates for full thematic trench action.
Take some basic greenstuff sculpting lessons.Time did not work out in my favor for this last year. Maybe sign up for a class at Gencon.
Convert a unit of Burrowers to look like they're emerging from the ground.
Finish my cemetery fences terrain for linear box action!

Of these, I only really completed the trench goal, building over 150 pieces
of trench for an event. I really should take greenstuff sculpting lessons at
a con or elsewhere.

Dakka Articles

Finish the friggin' Cryx and Mercenary sections already.
Rework the older sections to include all the new stuff.
Edit the current work people have been doing.
Get more Army Profiles onto the site.
Convert some of the Tutorials from the forums into articles.
"Catalogs" article
Battle reports using my new tokens.

Yeah. This one has been lacking. I'll have to revise my goals for next year.

Pokeminiatures

Get back to the four to five post a week schedule. End of 2010 has been rough for this, but work past that.
Re-organize the posts (yes, starting from the beginning). Figure out a tagging system that will work for me without too many duplicate tags.
Leviathan and Behemoth write-ups.
More who's that warcaster!
Get that banner done.

A mild success. I did get back to a more frequent post schedule, and I did
finally get the banner done. Re-organizing though? Only some parts.

Warmachine and Hordes

Attend the Lock and Load and Gencon conventions. If Lock and Load is soawesome perhaps I can get other gaming/workshop time in at Gencon.
Focus on specific armies for three factions rather than trying to collect and play them all.
I lie. Continue collecting everything.
Factions to play: Menoth, Trollbloods, either Khador or Cygnar
Factions to build up: Circle, Minions, Legion of Everblight, Cryx
Take time to visit that Goat game store and Chicagoland Games.

Because Black Sun Games closed, I have been spending time at Chicagoland
Games and the Dice Dojo. I do collect nearly everything. I haven't really built up
my Circle, Minions, Cryx and Legion armies. I haven't played my Khador or
Cygnar but I have played the crap out of Menoth and Trollbloods.

Other miniatures

Soviets: Machine guns, Mobile Assault Guns, Infantry
Reaper Fantasy: 2-3 a month, 20 for the year
Mouse Warrior type models wherever they appear
5-10 Anima Tactics models
Super Dungeon Explore! All of it!
Dystopian Wars: Paint my Fleet box and maybe acquire a second faction after that.
40k: Work on one army: Grey Knights, Blood Templars (red black templars), or Eldar
Fantasy: If there's a new army book for 8th edition: Wood, High, Dark Elves. If not, don't bother
War of the Ring: Movement trays, Mumak.

I haven't done much Flames of War painting, but I have been painting the odd
Fantasy Model. I MAY have hit my target of 20 models a year. Dystopian Wars I've
only painted a small number of my fleet box. 40k has been on and off, mostly with
work on the Grey Knights, but I do have more Eldar and BTs to assemble and paint.

The new book I picked up for Fantasy was Ogres. I liked painting the fatties. I
don't know if I'll enjoy playing.

I haven't bought a third or even a second Mumak. I are sad.

Super Dungeon Explore is assembled AND primed! Excited!

Press Ganging

Run at least 6 events, with one of those events being a team based event.
Run one or two more round robin leagues, try for 8 players, 2 groups of 4 players each.
]

I did end up running a bunch of events in the past year with one team event.

How about you? How did you do?

You are so productive, malf! Quite an inspiration...

For myself, I painted my first army on my own since getting back into the hobby (having previously had things commissioned) and it was very satisfying. Also attended 3 GTs with it!! Then got burned out from painting and took a break...

Hopefully 2012 will give me a good excuse to get painting again, with Adepticon as my goal!

Surfing the Tervigon Wave...on a baby.

I've not had any resolutions other than adhering to the painting pledge...

Which suffice to say I did.

In total, after two years between odds and ends I've painted some 4200 points worth of things - including getting a respectable amount of Lizardmen done in a month!

In contrast my co-pledged friend has only managed to do 1500 points. So I'm making some progress.

And I still have yet to carry out my threat to paint 15 carnifexes and call it a day.

Now only a CSM player.

I had a big move in 2011 - move from my lonely apartment (which was way too small for me and my hobby) to a larger apartment, 1.5h away from work, but in the same house as my Girlfriend and the two kids (we also had to move her from her house to an apartment which was a lot of work, as the apartment just isn't as big as a house).

Painting and modeling - got some CSM and Orks done - not nearly the amount that I planned ... but hey family comes first.

Modelling - planned to start my Chaos Reaver and did only manage to start one toe and plan for the Base (DKoK, Trenches and a destroyed LRBT).
Gained more experience in the use of magnets for just about everything.

Techniques - finally got a new compressor and started using the Airbrush productively - big Yey on this front

All in all, it wasn't a bad year, looking forward to the next

I can happily say I've lived up to most of my expectations. I got a Black Templar army commission done this summer, along with a Tau one. I've been doing small works for CSM and Tau on the side, painted up a full CSM army (and then sold it), painted up a full Flesh Tearers army (and sold that too), and am almost done with an Imperial Fists army (which will probably be sold off too).

The only thing I haven't done is completed my Guard army (just two more Valkyries...though I did paint 8 Chimeras, 2 Leman Russes, 2 Hydras, and 200+ infantry for it).

I think I've painted well over 500 minis this last year. Kinda nuts when I think about it...

I had planned on finishing both of my Elves armies, but I crashed a motorcycle in April and that sat me on my ass for 4 months after it.

I've been trying to catch up here and there, hopefully after moving in February I'll be able to get a lot of painting done in my new workspace.

Sadly, I didn't really get much done.

I assembled a few tanks, and built a display board. The tanks are still sitting with a coat of Chaos Black primer waiting to be painted after about 3 months.

The curse of having 3 fully painted 2,000 point armies is that I'm no longer under the gun to get stuff painted in order to play.

i didn't post any new years resolutions in 2011. For 2010, I posted:

1. Don't poop my pants.
2. Have a paint to purchase ratio of 3:1.
3. Enter a unit or diorama at the 2010 GenCon painting competition.

1. Success for 2010 and 2011! That's now 4 of the last 6 years!
2. About 2:1, so not bad. That put a big dent in my primered-only miniatures.
40k includes 2 super heavies, 2 land raiders, a 30-man boy squad, a 20-man boy squad, some Nobs, Pedro Kantor, Lugft Huron, Crimson Fist Devastator Squad, Two Crimson Fist Tactical Squads, and a crap ton of Black Templars.
Fantasy Includes: miniatures for all 7 players in our Pathfinder campaign plus two monsters for the GM, a Ral Partha Golden Dragon, a dwarf fighter, and a GW Daemon Prince.
3. I did the speed paint competition in 2011 and 2010 at Gencon, but did not enter a unit in one of the other painting competitions.

1. Play more games in general, this year was pretty poor overall, although that had a lot to do with Aurelia losing interest in her Tyranids after the new Codex came out. With her new Dark Eldar army taking shape I see good things ahead in 2011.

2. Paint my Skaven army I have (plus a HPA and Ikit) by the end of the year, about 200 models.

3. Get my Battlewagon, Ghaz, Nobs conversions done in time for the 40K doubles in feb.

4. Paint my new Eldar army.

5. Paint some Druchii, even though they are on hold atm while I wait (hopefully) for Plastic Dark Riders.

6. Finish my Mordheim terrain, and hopefully get several battles done this year.

7. Get a proper 6x4 table sorted, the two temp boards are starting to look knackered.

So How did I do.

1. Not as many as I would like, played about five games at home, and six at the Doubles. but the news of my third with Aurelia from mid Feb pretty much put a hole in many of my goals, and a nine months of build up and general distractions meant gaming was automatically on the backburner anyways. Hoping for improvements during 2012, would at the very least like a game a month.

2. Skaven army was sold after we dropped out of Warhammer, a general dislike of some of the things happening in 8th, plus a general decesion to concentrate on 40K and skirmish games, and a growing lack of space at home meant fantasy had to go.

3. All done, and much fun was had at the doubles.

4. Also sold, as I've said in other threads I occasionally suffer from a ADD like mentality with GW, and many armies have started, stuttered and then been sold over the years, I dread to think what my lost percentage is based on buying, and then selling for sometimes half the price six months later. Eldar was a army I enjoyed years ago, but my issues with painting them, that I thought I'd got over, resurfaced, and after lots of thought, I did what I should have bloody done when I got the Eldar, which is go back to my beloved Guard.

5. Gone, like the Skaven, got rid of them when we dropped out of 8th. Will have some more at some point, but only for Mordheim, have also vowed not to expand on any more Mordheim gangs until my terrain is 90% finished. (About 30% atm.)

6. Nope, nota, nothing. Started two new pieces, did a little painting, but nothing finished, no games this year either. Although the build up for the new baby was a key part of that.

7. Also fail, never got around to sorting it. However since then my mother has got herself a people carrier, so unlike her old MG sports car, we could actually go and get the materials in this one. Come the spring time, I should be sorting that one out. A year late, but better late, than never.

So, yeah, generally a poor year, hopefully 2012 will be a better one.

I think I'm going to put a resolution in that says to paint;
1.) 100 points of models a week, or;
2.) 10 models, whichever comes first.

Painting imperial guard made me suffer from burnout so I no longer care about how well the paintjob is done. I lost a few tricks and some of my skills because I started cutting so many corners without practicing new skills I'd acquired and also stopped painting. So... New resolution is already in effect (pesky education is getting in the way of maintaining my weekly goal).

3.) Get onto building more terrain. Lots of it.
4.) get on to selling the terrain I built to fund more hobby, or maybe some tuition.

This was one of my 2011 Resolution Lists:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Finish all of my unfinished Cadians and update my blog.

2. Add two Vendettas, two Hydras, and two Manticores

3. Add an Imperial Superheavy or two for Apocalypse games

The big hurdle to get over is the pile of Cadian melta and plasma gunners that need paint. The models are OK but 21 of them is a bit daunting...and monotonous.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I certainly didn't finish all of my remaining Cadians. In fact I bought three more boxes of figures that also need paint. However, I did update my Dakka plog a time or two (or six).

2. I added half as much as I wanted: one Vendetta, one Hydra, and one Manticore. I'm not sure that I will add the second set since my current list doesn't require them. I would like two Colossi but GW will have to make them. I'm not feeling an itch for a major conversion project.

3. I did get a Baneblade. Unfortunately, it is in storage right now and won't see paint for at least two years. Oh well, I still have all those Cadians lying around...

Since '02 I have been trying to paint 100 figures per year.
Due to family issues I have only finished 73 for this year, so it doesn't look like the goal will be met for 2011.
Also since '02 I have been painting more figures than I buy, which has been an ongoing success.

No yearly goals, but I made a number of monthly painting pledges with my game club and I finished at least 90% of them. I'm sure there are many who would agree with me that it's much easier to reach painting goals when other folks are participating and encouraging you to finish with a bit of peer pressure.

It's been a very productive year for painting and gaming. I've made nearly every club meeting (every other thursday) for the entire year.

My mistake for misreading your subject. 2011 has been fairly productive for me hobby wise. At least the last 4-5 months. I was not working on an army until about a month ago, but painted all sorts of interesting models. Since starting a DE army I have managed to get a unit of 5 Scourges painted, and a few Hellions. I will probably work on more stuff tonight and all day tomorrow as well.
