This may be a stupid question, but after a few hours of reading and re-reading the rule book, I can not find anything that says whether two different independent characters may not join the same squad or that they can, my friend has told me they can not but I am still unsure.

They can, even, form a two-man squad together, unless my mark is completely off.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

It gets real interesting when you do that also.
Shrike and Lysander both attached to a sternguard unit.
Shrike lets the whole unit infiltrate. Lysander lets them use bolter drill to deliver a ton of rapid fire poison shots into whatever annoying MC or blob squad you want dead on turn 1.
Of course you then get back into the whole 'can you attach Ghazzy to a snik-rot commando unit and use that to bring Ghaz into the battle from your oponents board edge' argument.
Again.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

There is an FAQ about the Ghazz thing and the answer is yes. Although I wouldn't necesarily say its proper use of ghaz, alot of people like to do it with a warboss on a bike or with grotsnik.

I am not sure that Snikrot is an IC either though, he is a "boss" but the term "boss" is fluff. Not all "bosses" are IC's. I think he is just a unique model int the unit, like a nob.
