OK so 12 Orks attack something.
Something does 7 wounds.
Orks do 5.
Orks roll 11 on morale check and fall back.
Somehow they win initiative and don't get swept.
however, now there are only 5 orks left. See pg 46 BGB top right column Line 12.
Do they just run off the board if no one assaults them?

Yup, they will continue to Fall Back each turn until they fall off the board.
They can still perform any other action available to them (like shooting) along the way, though.

What if there was an IC with them, like in that example, if a warboss was with them. Does he continue to fall back as well?
I ask because I recently played a DE player, I wiped his squad but his HQ fell back and rallied 1 turn later(should have chased him off edge but didn't).
I have just started playing some SM too, so if a unit of 5 marines takes 3 casualties and fails leadership, they are basically stuck in fall back mode as well? Since the only marines I own are the Aobr ones, I have been splitting my tac squad into to 2 5 man squads. Does marines Auto Rally rule over ride this 50% rule or not?

I could be wrong (don't have SM codex on hand atm) but I think ATSKNF allows you to regroup even if below 50%. I'm fairly certain it's not auto regroup. If it is auto regroup then no they cannot as the unit is below 50%. When split up into combat squads, each 5-man group is a separate unit.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

As Orks it kind of sucks, but honestly we get sweeping advanced all the time anyway and I have yet to even encounter this situation as an Ork player.
But as I start SM's I am realizing that this rule could totally screw a 5 man unit. Not impossible for something like a SAG or a plasma cannon to wipe 3/5 guys. Which would effectively be killing all 5 if they were Assault marines.
I also want to know what the rule is for the IC. I won that game against the DE player, but his HQ which possibly should have run off the board, came back and killed alot of Orks that game.

Units that consist of 1 model (not units that are reduced to 1 model) can always attempt to regroup as they can never be below half strength. Not sure about IC's that have joined a unit.

If Ghaz called his Waaaugh! and made all units fearless, would that apply to falling back units? I think this has been addressed, but I do not have my codex nor the desire to search.

Quite sure fearless can not be applied to anything falling back. I am pretty sure that a fearless IC joining a falling back unit does not confer fearless and they continue to fallback. I think Ghaz's waaagh would pretty much be same thing. but just like you, I am at work right now .

Might wanna double check the Fearless USR: IC's do lose fearless with a non-fearless squad (but gains it if the squad is fearless). Units that gain Fearless while falling back automatically regroup on next Movement phase.

A unit that is falling back immediately rallies if it gains fearless.
Prophet of the Waagh! does not affect orks that are falling back, nothing prevents you from calling Ghazghkull's Waagh! the second you fail your moral check though.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

ATSKNF allows Marines to pass regroup tests without rolling, and allows them to ignore the below 50% restriction.
Grots R OP wrote:What if there was an IC with them, like in that example, if a warboss was with them. Does he continue to fall back as well?
ICs can not join nor leave a unit that is falling back. So yes, if he is joined to the unit when they fall back, he is stuck with them.
If along the way the unit is destroyed, leaving just the IC, he would be free to regroup.
Green is Best! wrote:If Ghaz called his Waaaugh! and made all units fearless, would that apply to falling back units? I think this has been addressed, but I do not have my codex nor the desire to search.
Ghaz's Waaagh! specifies that non-fleeing units become Fearless. So no, it doesn't apply to units that are already falling back.

ATSKNF does permit them to regroup if they're below 50% strength (although all other criteria apply), and lets them autosucceed on regroup checks if they are capable of making one.

And because ATSKNF is not good enough with that and taking no retreat wounds instead of being killed by a sweeping advance, you get a free 3" consolidation and then not count has having moved. This way a unit of Devastators fleeing would usually auto-rally as long as they're not within 6" of the enemy, get 3" to reposition themselves, and then not count as moving so they can fire their heavy weapons. You can thank the FAQ for that 3" not count as having moved move.
Also, a unit falling back that gains fearless does not immediately rally, it does so at the beginning of its next movement phase regardless of normal restrictions. This can make a difference in some rare situations.

P⑨P QUIZ
A bus left the Scarlet Devil Mansion; three people boarded at the start.
At Hakugyokurou, one left and half a person boarded.
At Yakumo-san's house, two people left; so how many passengers in total?
The answer is zero people because there are no buses in Gensokyo! |

Sorry, but this is incorrect.
Normally, units that regroup get to immediately move up to 3", and count as having moved whether or not they make use of this movement. ATSKNF means that Marines ignore the second part of that... they don't count as moving if they don't move. But there is nothing in ATSKNF that says that they don't count as moving if they do move.
So rallying Devastators who don't move when they regroup can shoot that turn without counting as moving, whereas non-Marine (and non-relentless, of course) models with Heavy weapons could not.

Fasha, the 3" "free" move still is disputed. The argument is that all ATSKNF removes is the clause that causes units that regroup to automatically count as moving, even if they don't use that 3".

Fair enough, every time it has come up be it tournament or otherwise that I have seen it has been ruled that the 3" consolidation was before the movement of the model and thus not counted regardless of if it was used or not. Been long enough that I attached that ruling without re-reading the FAQ bit. My apologies.
