Ready for some mental exercise! If an IC is joined to unit, they move at the speed of the slowest model. But what about the faster units? A Bike Boss joins Stormboyz. He has a 24" possible movement and they have a possible 12+D6". They jump >12", but the IC does not move more than 12". As Jump Infantry, even though the unit moved over 12", they cannot Turboboost, so the unit did not Turboboost. Does the IC count as having Turboboosted since the unit did go over 12"?

Turboboost is a special rule, right? And independent characters do not confer special rules to the squad they're in.

And all models in the unit move at the speed of the slowest link.

Which means the entire squad can go no further than 12", as they are restricted by the slower speed of the biker boss.

You cannot have one model move 12+d6" if the speed of the UNIT can only be 12".

This is the sentence that is wrong. The stormboyz do not have the option to move 12+D6 when the biker boss is with them.

EDIT: Oh, wait, I see what you're saying. That if the boss turboboosts, then it is the stormboyz that are the slower models in the unit. Well, the answer then would lie in whether the boss can even turboboost if he's in a unit.

My first assumption was incorrect. He can't Turboboost, because he loses that USR when he joins the unit. He can move a max of 12", which limits the Stormboyz to 12 inches as well. They still roll a D6 to see if one of them eats it on a 1 if they utilise their Rokkit Packs. Just brainstorming a cheap Bike Boss meatshield that can keep up.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Why wouldn't you roll to see if a SB bites the dust? Nothing in the entry says they have to move. But the entry does say you have to roll if you use their jump packs.

As soon as you are moving more than 6" and/or try to ignore intervening terrain, you are using their jump packs, and you would have to roll the d6.
