Hey Dakka, with the holidays coming up and the holiday money coming along with it, I have been wondering what to spend it on. I have been thinking about starting a Vanilla Marine Chapter (how original), since I have never run marines before so I wanted to give them a try. Is the megaforce a good place to start or would I be better off buying individual boxes. P.S I have already purchased the Battle of Black Reach Set, I know thats always a popular suggestion

There's two thoughts on whether the Megaforces (SM & DE) are worth it:
1) Yes.
2) Hells yes.

Good luck finding them though. They sold like hotcakes.

You certainly save money with it. I'd say its all usefull except the venerable dreadnought which although is a cool set isn't overpriced. so running him as a regular dread would be better. other than that i think its pretty good, though you wouldn't have any transports (excluding the land raider) which you would probably want...

You love it you slags!

It's a pretty considerable dollar savings. You'd want some rhinos to go with it but other than that it's a great start to an army.

Instead of getting Rhinos get the Razorback kit. they are the same price and the razorback kit comes with the same sprues as the rhino but gets the aded weapon sprue.

It is worth it, even at retail. I managed to get mine for £117 so it was even better. The Land Raider, drop pod, scout speeder, and venerable are worth that much alone. The infantry are just gravy.

rainbow dashing to your side

it depends, do you want a cool looking army that might win games?

I for one wanted an army that would look cool and win games....hence why I didnt spend £130

to me it seemed like GW got a box and added all the iconic space marine uints to it. the army you'll have after you get it along with AOBR will be fun and you'll have all the best looking toys but it wont add up to a good army :/

my little space marine army, now 20% cooler http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/424613.page

Yes it is worth it, but I hear that they are no longer available from the GW site so you will have to hunt one down.

The Ven dred kit is the same price as the regular dreadnought kit, it just has a Plasma cannon instead of the missile launcher arm. It is definitly worth it as a kit.
