First off, I would like to say that I am back stateside after my fun trip to Afghanistan, so I plan to get in on a few of the more fun YMDC discussions here in the near future.

Secondly, I would like to say hello to all my old friends. I missed you and our rules debates and hope to return to them soon!!!

And lastly, I have recently read through the Necron codex. As I read through and saw all of their new fun toys, a thought occurred to me (shocking, I know!! )... With their ability to push night fighting for a potential full game, the ability for shots to jump groups, and the ability to harm unengaged units, it just started screaming at me that the Necrons are practically begging for the Dark Eldar to use WWPs to just walk up and smack them in the face on turn two. I know that there are uses for WWP armies already, but lets face it, everyone seems to love the Venomborns most of all on the competitive scene, and a pure Wych cult just seems like a really good idea against the Necrons, especially loaded up with Haemys and Haywire Grenades. I was wondering what others thought of this idea???

Its great to be back with a good net connection, cause I sure missed posting and reading on Dakka!!!!

The niggle for WWP has always been - fragile initial turn.

Necrons have some solid seizing ability that can derp on Baron Sathypants, and the Stormlord can cause some serious concerns to your initial setup because you really don't want to risk anything being popped.

Night fighting in a general sense favors assault, and Necrons still beg to be assaulted, I'm not sure I see them as a home run for WWP assault over basic Raider Rush assault though.

The Necron codex is perhaps slightly more vulnerable to WWP based lists, but not to the point that its a clear cut choice. They are clearly more vulnerable to assault based armies than firepower/Venom based armies which makes Wyches and various other options better, but as Thor mentioned WWP based lists still have first turn issues and Raider based assault armies will do the same job most of the time. Necrons do make Night Shields more attractive though, they still don't help you against Missiles and Autocannons but are very helpful against the latest two books (GK and Necrons) which are both heavy on 24" range shooting.

Yeah, I've been enjoying the potential meta-shift towards lower range armies. If everyone starts dropping into the 24/36" range then Nightshields will take a dramatic uptick in viability.

Sorry about that Thor, didn't mean to imply it was an auto-win with a WWP, just meant that they seemed to really be a solid choice to face the Necrons with, due to the 'Crons being such a short range army that still lacks really good assault units. They have some decent ones, but nothing that can keep up with a Wych Cult or a Haemy Coven. I simply meant it as they are still a medium range shooting heavy army, and if you can deny them that medium range, which a WWP army is very good at, then you will stand a very good chance of making it a very bad battle for them.

Of all the armies out there I would have to say that Mech DE is the one that has the least problems with Night Fight. DE in transports are looking at turn 2 charges. Turn 1 is just positioning.

Had some personal experience with this a few weeks ago. I need to learn to screen better, lol.

WWP DE is still good, but I don't see Mech DE being hindered that much. I see GK dreads and Long Fang spam having a rough time though.
