I came up with this rule to better represent a massive flying machine crashing down out of the air.

If a vehicle on a large flying stand suffers a "Destroyed - Wrecked" result on the vehicle damage table, proceed to roll a D6 and add 1 for every 3 inches you moved in your movement phase. Move the vehicle forward that far. Any units that are passed over by the vehicle suffer a strength 5, AP6 hit for every model in the unit. This ignores cover. After this movement is complete, take the vehicle off the stand. The vehicle is now wrecked.

This may mean that people may start making kamikaze units, but I think it's ridiculous that massive airplanes just go straight down when they fail.

I like the concept of having more realistic interactions between vehicle models and foot solders ( such as tank shocks actually hurting foot solders), but It needs to be carefully considered so that suicidal ork trucks don't create purposeful car bombs (though It would be fun ).

May? This would either slaughter hordes, or they'd be scared to shoot at "flyers"

edit: also - what happens if you "crash" on top of a unit?

That sounds like a pretty fun rule except for the fact that I'd probably lower the AP to around 5 or 6.

You would move the units around the wreckage. You need some logic to make the game believable. Genetic Super Warriors is all good, but planes don't drop downwards.

Yes, because the game with space orks and geneticly engineered superhumans needs to make sense
And planes do drop down, if one of their wings have been taken out and they start going into a nosedive. If anything, it should be based on a scatter die

Want to help support my plastic addiction? I sell stories about humans fighting to survive in a space age frontier.

Eh, I don't see the scatter die, even if a plane's wings are shot off, it's not going to pull a 180 and crash that way.

Even if they go into a nosedive they will move slightly forward. And seeing how most of the weight is at the front of a flyer it normally goes forward.
