Hi there. I am an IG player, but just watched some miniwargaming.com videos about tactics, and I started to get really interested in the Eldar videos. Mainly because they have good initiative and can attack first alot of the time, and they have finesse and can move around the board with ease, or that is the impression I get.

Now my question is, which units can move shoot and move again, are there any? Are there any that can move and shoot, if so what are their model names and how good are they. Okay I am starting to get interested in the Eldar race. And how does Dark Eldar compare to Eldar. Are they both the same play style? Quick and shooty? Are they shooty even? See I dont know a thing about Eldar. Thanks

Eldar are outstanding.
1. They ave great anti psyker
2. A few good hqs to build a few different armies
3. Fast skimmer tanks that can be tough to kill
4. lance weapons so av14 is not an issue
5. some great cc stuff like yriel, avatar, banshees, harelquins
6. Lots of things to add strategy like night spinner
7. Fire Dragons are great anti tank
8. they have Eldrad.. prob one of the best hqs period
9. relatively good deals online since theyre still an older dex

Dark Eldar are different but in the venom spam look a lot like eldar cept not as good at anti psyker imo.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

See now your making me want them even more. Yes I think if I were to make them I would have a strong high initiative close combat army with some quick shooty supports.

Procrastinating.

It's more like close quarters shooty with countercharge units, the lack of assault transports with the squishy nature of the cc units makes for a bad mixture.

Hmm...CC units and units with assault moves...

Assault Moves
Jetbike anything. Warp Spiders. All of those can be pretty competitive but very few people like Shining Spears.

Assault units (in order of my personal preference)
Seer Council on Jetbikes - an all purpose deathstar unit. With fortune they're nearly indestructible. Their main problem is getting stuck in protracted combats with units with good saves as they lack power weapons. They excel at burning hordes with destructor and smashing through vehicles.
Harlequins - Can be run on foot with a Shadowseer. Very fragile, but extremely deadly. Good against nearly any enemy.
Howling Banshees - Low S gives them some trouble, but they go at I10 in the first round of combat and have all power weapons. Use with doom support.
Striking Scorpions - Excellent at killing hordes and with a good save they can be run on foot without issue. They suffer against the proliferation of power weapons in the game but still fare very well against non-combat-oriented MEQs.

I'd recommend researching each unit before making purchases. YMMV from mine.

Dark Eldar are very different from Eldar. They're much softer and really need to get in the first hits against the enemy. They are easy to assault with and can take an abundance of S8 AP2 weapons.

If you do play with Eldar it will help develop your tactical play. Because Eldar require you to think, at the very least, one turn ahead it improves your battle strategies like no other race.

Eldar offer you the opportunity to embrace very different styles of play and use different units in synergy to compliment each other. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses and no two units do exactly the same thing.

Most importantly though IMO the models look awesome and always have (except for the 3rd edition aspect warriors - eww, at least they all got replaced quite quickly!)

Regarding your move, shoot, move question - tanks with star engines can move, disembark troops and then move again! Great for Wave Serpents and Falcons!

Imperial Fists - 10,000pts Daemons - 8000pts Hive Fleet Moloch - 10,000pts
Black Templars - 4000pts Goff Orks - 8000pts Death Guard - 3500pts
Dark Angels - 4000pts World Eaters - 3000pts Alaitoc Craftworld - 8000pts
Space Wolves - 4000pts Black Legion - 9000pts Heretics & mutants - 2000pts
Grey Knights - 4000pts Dark Eldar - 5000pts Cadian Imperial Guard - 5000pts
Tau - 4000pts Catachan Imperial Guard - 1000pts Necrons - 7000pts
Blood Angels - 4000pts Biel-tan Craftworld - 2000pts Eldar Corsairs - 1000pts
Agents of the Imperium - 1500pts
Imperial Knights - 2000pts Death Watch - 1500pts
Adeptus Mechanicus - 3000pts Harlequins - 1000pts Genestealer Cult - 2000pts
Blood Ravens - 1000pts Thousand Sons - 2500pts

Eldar require tactical genious, for two reasons: they die easily and they are expensive compared to what they do, luckily they can make some pretty decent tactical moves.

After the recent FAQ, the total movement must still be legal for dropping troops off, I believe.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

Eldar is an army of specialists. You have certain units that only perform certain roles-if they try for a role outside of what they are supposed to perform, they're going to get stomped. It is a very unforgiving army. The exception to this rule is the jetbike seer council-has great saves, with re-rolls, great at anti-tank from their singing spears and great against infantry-wound on a 2+. It's expensive, but it gets the job done. They are a tough army to play, but very rewarding if you do the job well.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Star engines prohibit embarking / disembarking. [page 44 Eldar codex]
