Does it count if you never played marines in the first place? If so it took me 0secs to switch to guard.

Not AoBR, but after I got the marines from 3rd edition box set, I bought the Dark Angels codex before we played our first game.

Started with Blood Angels when the starter set included the Land Speeder (I think it was 3rd ed.) and never looked back.

Actually I started playing Orks, but they were my brothers models.

Started with CSM (the book before this one), about a year to include Tau after inheriting my brother's army that i'd built for him and he'd forgotten about, and then up until now (3 or so years) to start Eldar.

WHFB can be added if you want; started LM about 1.5 years after Chaos, then WoC about a 1.5 years ago, and High Elves a few months ago.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I started with CSM, and I've stayed with CSM.

I got AoBR, sold the Orks, and I still have the Marines sitting around, but I never really grew from there. But hell, with 1 CSM army ALMOST all the way painted, a mostly unpainted Tyranid, mostly unpainted Tau, and mostly unpainted Necron army, I'm not too concerned with my Marines at the moment haha

Never played loyalist marines. My first 40K army was Orks, starting with the second edition boxed set and a couple of the original plastic Ork boxed sets. I traded all of the marines from 2 AoBR sets for more Orks. Considering trading Orks for space wolves, though.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Okay, then I have one more question:

Why is Vanilla the standard flavor?

What makes it standard?

I see more people eating chocolate pudding than vanilla pudding, if anything Chocolate should be the standard flavor.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

It took me about 6 months to pick up some Tau after I had started SM. Thats when I won my first game. played my Tau for a little while, then swapped back to playing my Nilla marines.

Then AoBR came out and I started Orks.

Then I leafed through the Daemon Hunter codex. Saw da Shiny Must have da shiny

Went back to using my Nilla marines because GKs were really just for fun. Got a pretty good gunline army going on.

The Codex: Shiny Marines got released

Then I gave away my Tau and sold my Orks so I can have more Shiny

I still use my Vanilla Marines occasionally.
