Another Mental Exercise! So, my well respected and experienced friend were discussing Ork possibilities, and a Warboss on a bike joined to Stormboyz came up. After researching and asking on Dakka, we feel that the Warboss would limit the unit to moving 12". But what about running? A bike cannot run in the shooting phase. Can the Stormboyz roll to run while the Warboss sits still? I say no, as the unit is limited by the slowest model. He says yes, as it is running and not movement. So our disagreement is whether running follows the same restriction as movement. If you know, please respond with references pages from the Rule Book or FAQ to support your argument. Saying 'the Rulebook says' does not count.

See "Run!" on page 16 of the BRB; the references to movement, 'immediately moving D6"' and a reference to 'running movement' should suffice.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

AS above. Running IS movement, so if one model cannot run, then neither can the unit

movement, is what you do in the movement phase
running is what you do in the shooting phase
rules for movement, are for the movement phase RAW
page 11 gives us the rules for multi-movement units... the title of that page is "Movement Phase"... its talking about things that happen in the movement phase.
Rules for running: page 16, are in the shooting phase section, you can't take rules for one phase and apply them to other phases unless given permission to (permissive rule set). Automatically Appended Next Post: Page 48 gives us the rules for IC... says an IC can't leave coherency with a unit during any phase other than movement, and that IC must move, shoot, and assualt with the unit... that pretty much rules out running.

@ Lobukia: This is my friend's stance. His argument is that the rules for Assaulting specifically refer to using the normal movement rules and restrictions, whereas Running does not, so they don't apply. I am still not sold on it. My argument is that Pile-in moves and consolidation specifically negate regular movement restrictions. This may be an argument between conservative and liberal interpretations of the rules.

...But you ARE given permission to by the 'Run!' rule where it says "In their Shooting Phase, units may choose to run instead of firing, immediately moving D6"..."

@ Avatar 720: But the Bike Boss cannot run. Does he restrict the rest of the Mob from doing so?

Since the unit as a whole elects to run, one member being unable to will restrict them, yes.
I was simply arguing against the interpretation of running =|= movement.
