Besides the mistakes discussed post-game, I have a pointer or two for Shawn's GKs:
1. Not put his objective on the 3rd floor. Having it on the 2nd would have allowed for his boys to stay in rhinos. The 3rd floor placement only helped the skimmer.
2. The psyfleman ought to have been in a ruin for a Cover Save.
Cool batrep, as usual.

@Brother, yea i caught all the mistakes i did. I have been playing horribly lately. Cody's Army is extremely tough to play against, especially when I'm basically giving him kills lol. Now with all that negativity out of me. I gave him the landraider kill. And shooting my stormraven up that soon was a bad idea also. I could not make my mind up on what i wanted to do with the dreadnought. The idea i had for the base closest to me was "good" but your right i should of left if on second level..hid in the Rhinos on the ground floor and would of done much better. CVould of left dread on second floor and poof, a strong (sorta) defense for my own base. I should of parked my landraider and raven in mid field. No clue why im rushing forward like a crack addict at a meth sale, but i assure you the old way of play will come back into action. Going to try out 1 more list style before i make my mind up. The Three raven list i ran a few bat reps ago. Going to tweak it a bit. Well see. Until then. Big Congrats to Cody, he is a excellent player.

The other thing, not to dick-over Cody's Mechdar, (helpful advice is free for everyone) is - if you win the Initiative, give it to him, so you go second. That'll disallow the last-second objective grabs that is key to Mechdar. Also, it'll take away the two turn reserve screw that denies your boys' shooting, as most of his army comes in at the top of Turn 2. If he doesn't simply deploy all Turn 1 anyway.

I didn't have Star Engines on my one wave serpent =) Thats how I shaved the points for the game.
You would be right though if I didn't drop them. I do mention it in the beginning of the vid.
Thanks guys for all the comments. It was a fun game, but I cant take to much credit. Shawn usually doesn't make to many mistakes and he was just having an off night. Every other game he plays is pretty tough and hes def an awesome player when he doesnt jump the gun =)

I call it "deer in the headlights". Once you're in a game, you sometimes lose that tactical thinking that we're doing in front of the computer. "Keeping your cool" or "head in the game", etc.
I do it too. In a game, my arm-chair quarterback mind isn't present, so I goof up a lot.
Other times, you get "in the zone" and you see the game like a well planned chess match. I'd like if that would more often be the case.

Great Bat rep as always. And props to Shawn for not running "LOLSIWINEVERYTHINGPURIFIER" list or Draigo wing.
Course that being said: If you wana destroy everything Shawn, run Crowe purifiers.
Now that I've done the obligatory and random bash GK's bit:
I think the basic strat. of pushing forward with the LR and Raven was fine, just done a turn early. If you had waited one turn to push Sheep would have had to flat out to try and hit the LR, which would have prevented the FD's from blowing up your LR before it could shoot, and given you a chance to blow his serpents out of the water in return. Of course, you recognized your error in being too aggressive, but I think it was simply a matter of doing the right thing a turn to early (if this is what you meant by being too aggressive, then apologies for being redundant).
The psyriffleman, of course should always be in a building in cover pew pewing all over the place, NEVER out in the open. Shame on you, shame.
Now for something that I haven't seen here and may actually be useful input: You wasted a squad. The squad in the rhino never disembarked, and (from what could be seen in the video at least) never fired a shot. 150 or so points that did nothing for you. Those cannons are brutal, abuse them!
Again though, great bat rep. And amazing paint jobs on all models (I believe Shawn is to blame for the embarrassment I feel at looking at Sheep's serpents correct?)

I'm looking at starting an Eldar Army and some tactical questions for Bad Sheep. It took two squads of 5 Dire Avengers to wipe out the Strike squad. You jumped out 2 Fire Dragon squads to take out the Land Raider. Were you concerned about the first FD squad wiffing on the LR? If not, do you think moving 2 Serpents just like you did and deploy 1 FD squad to pop the LR and 1 DA squad to take out the SS inside would have worked? I'm curious as to your thought process on this tactic, and if you were saving your DA for objective taking later on, or what. Thanks!

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time. |

Wow. Thank you guys so much for the replies. I love hearing input in how the game can be played better on both sides, as well as how I can make my battle reports more enjoyable.
@Dash - Yeah Shawn is the one who does all of my painting. He is on the market for commission work and does great high table top quality and a great price.
@Ghenghis - The idea behind jumping both squads out was really just a piece of mind that that land raider was going to fall. Also, if 1 squad happened to take it out, I was going to fire my other squad into the strike squad that spilled out. Funny story however, I forgot to fire my second FD squad haha.
Also, My dire avengers could have wiped the strike squad out, but he had his storm raven there and was probably going to multi assault whatever he could. With that being said, and it being a mission style game, I didn't want my DAs in harms way until the last turn. Granted I could have played a little more aggressive, but every time I do, I get ahead of myself and end up losing. Eldar need to play the keep away and shoot game and should only move in when they KNOW they can bring their target down.

What I was confused about was that the serpent went on top of the ruin. The top is not impassible, but skimmers cant change levels in a ruin was my understanding. Also, if gk guys got up on topinstead of in the rhino then he couldnt land there anyway.

I think what Badsheep did with his serpent was legal, as long as it will stay where you place it, it is legal to have a flyer on that spot, even impassible terrain for that matter, but they still have to take a difficult or dangerous terain test.
Thanks for the batreps... Great one. Glad eldar won but I am biased. Sorry Shawn . I see you went with a lot more EMLs Badsheep and it helped you out a lot. Just a suggestion, but you could drop the scatter lasers and put on Shuricannons and with the shaved points may be able to keep star engines on the tank. I know it is one less shot, but with a AP of 5 vs 6 and the TL, I just don't see spending the points, except for war walkers as it gives them another 12" on range and they are not as manueverable. Keep the bat reps coming. Good times, wish I was in the area and could play you guys. Cheers.

Cool report and great demonstration how a 2 x Autarch Mech Eldar army plays.
As far as the skimmer on top of a ruin: A lot depends on how the terrain was categorized. Page 71 tells us how Skimmers move. Pages 82 and 83 tell us how models interact with Ruins.
If it was simply categoried as a Ruin, then no, the tank cannot end it's movement on the 3rd floor unless it was classified as Impassable to vehicles (and it appears it was not as a Rhino went into it on turn 1).
There's no rule that I can find that supports moving a skimmer to the top floor of a ruin unless the ruin is classified as 'Impassable'.
However, I do think GW could do a much better job at clearer rules writing.

Not really a match-up for a mech Eldar army. LRC goes down early by Fire Dragons, Storm Raven and Rhino are getting popped early by S6 spam, and Psy Dread is killed by Fire Dragons or Council. Game over.

I will admit the list i had made was HORRIBLE. Also my play style for the game was even worse. No clue why i bolted across the field, sat and waited for Sheep's dragons to eat my armor. O well though, it is always fun playing with these guys and each loss is always a lesson learned.
