Lets talk about construction in 40k. How do the different armies build there bases, bastions, and other fortification? Who builds them? Also what do they look like?

Guardsmen build basic defenses like trench networks. The Departmento Munitorum operates a sub-department called the Labor Corps. I imagine they build everything more complicated and likely use large amounts of Servitors.

Space Marines have Chapter Serfs and Servitors.

If we're talking general construction in the Imperium, that's left to individual worlds and are overseen by the Governors administrations.

Eldar use Bonesingers to construct wraithbone, they probably just have specialists walking the "Path of the Engineer" mold the wraithbone into a structure after that.

Dark Eldar and the Forces of Chaos use slaves like everything else they do. Orks also use slaves for anything major, otherwise individual Ork boyz/Gretchins build their ramshackle structures themselves.

Tyranid structures like Capillary towers are grown from the earth itself.

Tau use the Earth Caste, which in turn utilizes a large amount of drones.

Necrons probably just use Warriors as labor with Crypteks as overseers.

Invading forces (and unprepared defenders) probably drop pre-fabricated structures to secure quick strongholds before having to fight.

The Imperial Guard uses Orbital Droped Pre-fab bases and structures.

Why do you think all *Official* Imperial Guard defenses look almost the same? Because they are pre-manufactured.
