If you are using mindshackle scarabs in assault against a single enemy model (say, an independent character) does he attack himself? The book says he attacks his own unit and since he's the only model in the unit i would guess he does.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
