After researching the DoA lists posted in this forum pretty extensively, this is what I've come up with:

Librarian w/ Jump Pack, Shield of Sanguinius, Blood Lance - 125
5 x Honour Guard w/ 4 Meltas and 4 Flamers - 225

10 x Assault Marines w/ 2 Meltas, Power Fist - 235
10 x Assault Marines w/ 2 Meltas, Power Fist - 235
10 x Assault Marines w/ 2 Meltas, Power Fist - 235
10 x Assault Marines w/ 2 Flamers, Power Weapon - 215

2 x Sanguinary Priests w/ Jump Packs - 150
5 x Sanguinary Guard - 200

5 x Vanguard Veterans w/ Jump Packs, Power Weapon (free) and Power Fist - 190
5 x Vanguard Veterans w/ Jump Packs, Power Weapon (free) and Power Fist - 190

Total - 2000

The lowest hanging fruit is the Sanguinary Guard... however, I'd like to know what someone would swap for them if they'd rather drop them, and also how the list will deal with hard close combat target without them. Obviously, putting in another unit of Vanguard Veterans, or even another Assault Squad, instead of the Sanguinary Guard would work with the points... but I really want to know Why that would be better in the context of this list.

I am getting the models and bits for these, so please steer me in the right direction if I'm heading astray. I would especially like to know how a pure DoA list can deal with hard close combat targets / Grey Knights.

Also, in this list would Unleash Rage make more sense than one of the psychic powers I have listed?

Two minor differences
Firstly 4 plasma guns for the honour guard is sometimes needed, though their current set up is great.

Then I would personally use the guard points for another priest and upgrades to the vanguard units.

The vanguard units are there to enter into the cc with units where the assault marines would not stand a chance. Having only two powerweapon/fists is not enough to pull this in their favour. The have other roles as well.

Heavily armed vanguard, plasma guns and generally piling in as many assault squads simultaneously as possible is how you deal with hard cc units.

Thanks for that! I'm going to magnetize the arms of the VV so I can try out giving them more weapons. In their current setup, I was thinking they would tackle things like devastators while the sanguinary guard went after hard CC units... are they not up to the task?

Will also be magnetizing the Honour Guard and I already procured some plasma guns to try out that variant

That unit just gets to take one in each hand, a tip I got from AgeOfEgos!

Any other thoughts? I may play with swapping the Sanguinary Guard for a unit of Assault Terminators (and risk the 2D6" scatter) or another unit of Vanguard Veterans.
