Played my first(ish) Warhammer Fantasy battle today, 1000 points bretonnia vs 1000 undead.
I was Bretonia, and I wiped the floor, destroyed his whole army for the loss of one light cavalry (can't remember what they're called).
Heavy Cavalry with the +3Strength and +3 attacks was devestating, 4 strength 9 attacks on the charge. Pretty awesome.
Some questions though:
I didn't take the Paladin because of the required standard, meaning he couldn't take any magic weapons and would therefore be pretty useless, seemed like the two damsels worked pretty well though. Can the Paladin work or is that point limit too small?
From the undead point of view it seems like the lore of metal would be devestating against brittonia, is that accurate?

I am pretty sure the +3 attacks and +3 strength, the lore of Beasts buff can only be cast on characters, not rank and file Knights. Also Knights are str 5 on the charge, str 3 when not charging.
At 1000pts, your Knights are already LD 8, so I wouldn't worry too much about a crazy general. A Paladin can take a BSB banner and still take magic weapons and armor (you can't take any if you take a magic banner, say a flaming banner or armor piercing banner). I don't know the optimal hero setup for Brets at 1k, but I would go with a Paladin and a single level 2 caster.
Brets get owned by lore of Metal. 2D6 shots wounding on 2 with no saves will shred Knights.

Yeah the +3 strength and +3 attacks is onyl with characters, its while the bretonian character wall can be so nasty, especially with panns impenetrable pelt, but i digress. Undead cause a serious problem for brets which is that they don't break and flee. The initial charge will shred a lot of undead but then the knights become useless in further rounds of combat. to make sure this doesn't happen, hit targets that are weak enough to be annihilated in a single round, maximum of two rounds, of combat. Brets that are stuck in combat die, huge flanks, easily flank/ rear charged and almost no hitting power is a bad combination.

RnF knights can't get the Savage beast spell cast on them.
Knights do have +2 Str from their lances on the turn they charged.
May I ask which undead you faced? Was it Tomb Kings or Vampire Counts?

It was Vampire Counts.
seems a pretty big oops on my part, guess I'll be more reluctant to choose law of the beast in future.
Also agree with what bleedge said. I noticed when I charged into his skeleton, nearly wiped the unit out...nearly. Then flank charge by more zombies and suddenly I'm S3 and outnumbered 5-1.

beasts is good on low level casters because of Wildform. Take 2 level 1s just for that spell. It is really good on your knights(who can benifit from it, you can even double stack the spell)
For your level 4 I would take Life. The spells there really work well when combined together. one level 4 with life and 2 level 1s with beasts(Wildform) is a really good combo.
