Subject: Officio Tactica?

Stalwart Veteran Guard Sergeant

Is there any fluff for the Officio Tactica other than it acts as the "advisors" of IG formations larger than regiments and is a portion of the Departmento Munitorium?
I am assuming it is where all the non-command officers go in the IG, like the operations guys, the intel guys the personnel and logistics folks...sort of a ready made headquarters unit to command and control 2 or more regiments.

Sorry the only reference I can recall is reference to Biota and his staff in a few of the Guant Ghosts books.

I think they are intel mainly, the actual logistics aspect in more munitorium flunkies

Right Tacticae provides intel and general useful info of enemies encountered before. They also gather and sort out battlefield data.
You see them mostly in larger campaigns if at all. Like most of the backup of armies, be it ressources or info, those working in such buisness don't get mentioned as the "frontline" has the spotlight in a setting of eternal war.
Still the suppliers of ressources and data are important. Just not interesting enough to fit in novels or battles.
Plus the scale of 40k is too small for their use. The Taticae works as advisors for a staff of Generals and marshals, not some lonely Regiment on a backwater planet.

I agree with all of the previous posts. I was thinking that for Apocalypse scale battles it would be nice to have a "higher headquarters" type of "staff squad" that would give various bonuses and strategic assets depending on the size and composition of the models in it:
You would need a personnel type guy and it would give you some point amount of basic models as Reinforcements in turn d6 or something
You could get an intel type to remove Infiltrators, Ambush, Camouflage or give you Recon.
An operations officer could give you any tactical asset, frontline asset or support asset
A logistics officer could give you strategic redeployment or maybe 1d6 special weapons for no cost
A planner could give you any one strategic asset or maybe just Careful Planning
A communications officer could give you Jammers or a Disruptor Beacon...etc, etc...
Basically instead of just having a strategic asset for free, you could buy models to represent the assets and get more of them...granted, the models would have to be roughly Senior Officers but with only a laspistol and flak armor for equipment...not good for combat, but the point cost could be justified against the cost of the strategic asset that you gain by buying the model.
In addition, these HQ weenies would have to be a squad, with the squad leader being the Executive Officer or some such name...
Just an idea...
