So I have been thinking about starting a
WIP Blog for a while now to help keep me motivated and show off the models I am working on.
Let me start by sharing my dilemma
My current marines are painted in a Soul Drinkers color scheme. The way they are currently modeled and painted I have several issues with them.
1 – I never really like the Purple and Gold. The purple was always either too dark or too pink and was never able to get them to look the way I wanted to in my mind. The gold on the other hand looked ok on a marine but never seemed to look good on vehicle
2 – The custom doors, while unique never really came out due to cast imperfections
3 – The custom shoulder pads always seemed oddly bulky for the model
4 – I really like purity seals and books and what not which didn’t fit with the Soul Drinker fluff
So I have been thinking about it for a while now and I decided to strip them down and rebuild & repaint them.
Before I go too much further I wanted share with you all some of my inspiration for this.
Dice and Brush Guardians of the Covenant
1 – I really like the reds he was able to accomplish and he was nice enough to provide them
2 – I like the angel icons, purity seals, and scroll work on the vehicles
From the Warp – Minotaur’s
http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2011/12/painting-minotaurs-in-bronze-and-banner.html
1 – I like the bronze armor, it feels unique without losing the metallic feel of the Guardians of the Covenant
2 – It is a simple process that I can implement. This is huge for me as I am really not the best painter as you will see.
Les Bursley – Other than this guys stuff is amazing I used the following two videos
1 –
Weathering Wash Video Without this video I would not have been able to make the wash to be used in the bronze armor.
2 –
Wash Recipe I still use
GW washes for some things but I really like the ability to make custom washes in particular the dark shade washes that include some black in them
GW Dark Angel Upgrade Sprues
1 – I like the purity seals, books, and angel icons
2 – I have always wanted to do an army with a significant contingent of robed marines.
The idea being that this will be an Inquisitorial Strike Force that contains elements of the Knights of the Covenant, Guardians of Covenant successor, and an Imperial Guard Regiment so that while I am working through my marines I will also be rebuilding & repainting my guard into the same theme. In this way I’ll be able to maximize each models usefulness across numerous armies. Additionally by being an Inquisitorial Strike Force it will allow me to pit a lot of books, purity seals, and scroll work throughout my armies.
At this point I am hoping that this sounds interesting enough for you to want to keep following this and to get things started here are some pictures of my test model which is my counts as Coteaz
Counts as Coteaz
Looking at the pictures of him online they really don't do the model justice. I will work on taking some better pictures of him tonight along with some of the Soul Drinkers that will be reborn
