I don't see the point in those Scarabs. One unit will be dead before it reaches assault, the other will be heavily wounded and the other won't have a impact in assault. If you are taking Scarabs then it is a no brainer to take Canoptek Spyders.

If you're going to take Scarabs without Spyders, take one unit of 10. They make for a great distraction that your opponent can't ignore and his vehicles have to be cogniscent of. Also, it's easy to setup a unit of 10 into a multi assault.

Obyron works really really well with Dispersion Shield Lychguard. If you could shave some points here and there to take him, that'd be super swanky. His super veil to DS close to things you'd like to assault, and then you've got a swanky lord in the unit and Obyron adding some Warscythe Sexyness, and that's a fairly scary unit. If you've got your scarabs coming from one side, and these guys coming from the other... rockstar things will happen in your favour :-)

I don't like Ghost Arks or Warriors, but to each their own. You're taking them the right way to take them so... :-) It's good! *laughs*

Edit: Put Guass Cannons underneath your Barges. Having an AP3 shot as an option is tactically handy.

The scarabs are fine, yes they'll eat fire, but if only half of one squad gets to the tanks they're likely to kill them fast.

Well, we drew an Annihilation/Pitched Battle, and my IG friend also got first turn, so things were not looking good on the pre-game rolls.

He deployed fairly spread across his line. He fields an entire mech IG force, so he needed the space, and he chose the side of the table with slightly more cover, which I liked because I play movement games all the time.

I decided since he had most of his leman russes on my right flank I would just ignore that flank. I deployed a unit of 5 scarabs over there and essentially deployed my whole army on the left. This would pull his Russes into moving and that'll make them less effective.

Well I failed to seize, but with my first Solar pulse I negated all of his shooting except for one of his valkyries saw my far left Annihilation Barge and that went up in smoke. He basically decided to counter my night fighting by pushing his entire line towards me. Now he had two units of 3 ogryns each with a commissar so of course he wanted to get close.

Well the game trudged on with very little happening to me. He eventually killed all three scarab units, but after they wrecked 2 chimeras, a valkyrie and a lemas russ. One other big factor gave me this game which was his first turn o shooting without night fighting (turn 3), he whiffed with all three russes.... those big pie plates did nothing and the following turn i accumulated 6 KPS and burying him in deficit.

I won 12-5, but post battle we discovered a lot of things which went wrong systematically, I.E. rules we did wrong. We're playing again tonight with different lists, so hopefully I can bring some of that experience to the battle tonight as well as play a more accurate game.

Here is my list for this evening:

Dumping the Annihilation barges for Spyders eh?

Why the C'tan? Lord of fire is not something to be relied on, and Pyreshards is kind of weak. So, what is your reasoning for taking him?

You've got the one squad of warriors outside the Ark, There are a few things you could do. You could either, Drop them down to five, and keep them in reserve for walking on to a rearfield objective late game, or replace them with Immortals, since they are hardier.

You could flat out drop them for points if you wished that as well. I'd consider putting both Lance Teks in the Ghost Arks as well.

If you dropped the C'tan and the foot warrior squad, you could get two Triarch Stalkers. Those Heatrays will make quick work of vehicles, and they twinlink the rest of your army for whatever you fire at. This also adds to the advantage of more AV 13 goodness.

It's really nice that you posted how your list went, I wish more people would do that.

This list is essentially just a different take on the models I have. I noticed that the Lances didn't do much for anti-tank, so I'm going to try and assault out of those Arks with the warscythes and pop those russes or valkyries. Same deal with the command barges as opposed to the annihilation barges.

Also, the annhilation barges just didnt have good luck (even with tank hunter) at popping any armor. I know most of it was my poor rolling, but still.... so I decided to try the drive by attack method.

I dont care if I get blasted off the table.

The idea of the C'Tan as opposed to the Lychguard... well, I haven't used him against IG. My thoughts are he is tough to get rid of, the lure of fire helps mitigate against some of the melta he said he going to bring, and it keeps him cheap. I gave him pyreshards so he can be a little multi-purpose and shoot up some guardsmen should they become available. Other than that his job to to get close and make a nuisance of himself... hopefully popping tanks and destroying guardsmen along the way.

The unit of warriors is especially hearty with the support of an Ark. I have been pleasantly surprised. Also, the volume of fire is a little better, since I'm relying on 6's to glance with either gauss weapon, I'd rather just have more shots. The STR4 v STR 5 is not much of a loss considering I'll be trying to wound T3 for most of the infantry fire. Also, I only own 1 unit of Immortals.

Your recommendations are nice, but they dont make stalkers yet and I don't have appropriate proxies, so I'm trying to use as many dudes as I have actual models for. The spyders are the exception here, but too many proxies is confusing for me and my opponent. Although you make a good point.

I'll most likely stick with this list, but I will let you know how it pans out.

Are you thinking something more like this?

I like the follow up and how you are only taking units that you own, wish i had that kind of discipline. I think it's a great idea to drop some vehicles against IG, they really excel at anti vehicle, even at av13. Truthfully if you have the models to fill the point hole i would drop the transports too(except the command barges) and just have troop blocks to frolick around the board with pulling necron shennanigans with whatever crpteks they have.

Also, i know it's expensive but have you considered gaze of death? The combination of gaze and solar pulse(to get the ctan up the field) really makes the ctan quite effective. Gaze of death has given my ctan an untold amount of wounds back and allows him to stay in combats where he should be long dead. Plus it's a extra S3 Ap 2 Hit on every model around the Ctan, quite awesome. If your very tricky with it you can put a couple of your own troops under it(a couple warriors from a nearby unit) to increase your chances of getting a wound back and they could still come back from RP, giving yourself a wound back and a couple movement inches from RP if you need it.

Well, if you are going with what you have, then there is not much we can do to help.

I'm a big fan of Vanila Overlords, with just a Warscythe in their barge. They tend to do pretty damn well, for me at least.

If you want something to assault and break Vehicles, then Wraiths could help out in that department. Strength 6 and Rendng, they will have no problem to pop AV 10 Rear Guard vehicles. With 2W and a 3++ they are quite hardy, so can survive several turns of jumping around the board. Hopefully we'll get the new models soon, so everyone can stop using proxies.

Please continue to let us know how it goes!

I too disdain using proxies, this makes my burning desire to try pretty much every single unreleased model very hard to control. This also means opponents have their entire armory to choose from while I have half. Still, to an Immortal, to one among a legion, honor and your word are all that matter...

P.S. thats good, new sig!
