Hello Dakka, I have run into a slight problem. I don't know what to do with my metallic armor on my Dread Knight. I feel like it's too flat, is there anyway to improve it? I'm getting secret weapon weathering powder soon so I hope that helps. With out further a-due here he his.

badab black wash is all you need, give the whole model a liberal coat of the stuff, and it will look great

I'm really trying to paint without using washes. I've used them in the cogs and pistons though. My real issues is that flat armor, its really irking me because it looks so darn FLAT!!

okay alternative to washing it with a black wash.....

Strip it back to bare plastic,
Reprime with black then paint on a coat of 2 parts black to 1 part boltgun metal,
Paint again leaving the recesses dark with 1 part black 1 part boltgun metal,
Highlight again and again ETC with subsiquent layers mixing in a little more mitril silver each time,
Final highlight add a speck of white to your mithril silver.

There is nothing wrong with utilising a painting technique if it gives you the right result. there is something wrong with relying on one technique for everything you do.

1. Buy a sledgehammer.

2. Apply liberally.

3. Result - Great looking Dreadknight!!

* But seriously - Devlan Mud can be a great addition to the hinges/Joints - gives it a more dirty/rusted look than Black wash can do - which on Mithril tends to look a bit noobish. YMMV.

The only way to go from here is to add some white to mithril silver, and hope to god that using that as a higlight will do the trick. Sadly, your thing looks pretty darn bright, so your only chance without repainting the entire thing is going to be a wash. That, or take a black or dark grey pain of your choice, water it down by alot, and use that as a wash

Black oil washes look great too, washing is your #1 option at this point as stated by the others.

suggesting GW washes should realize that the silver OP has, is equivalent of asking you guys to use GW washes over a soda can.

OP use oil washes instead :3

Just to be clear I didn't mean it as an insult and I wasn't accusing you of anything. Just an observation
