Gents, I've only gotten a handful of Space Marine battles under my belt, but I think I've come up with a decent list, which I would like some thoughts on. Here's what I got:

HQ:

Forgefather Vulkan - 190

Elites:

Dreadnought - 150
- Multi-Melta
- Heavy Flamer
-- Drop Pod

Assault Terminator Squad - 450
- Thunder Hammers/Shock Shields
-- Land Raider Crusader

Troops:

Tac Squad x 2 - (215 each)
- flamer
- Multi-Melta
-Melta Bombs (Sgt.)
-- Rhino
---Dozer blade

Fast Attack:

Attack Bike Squad (2 bikes) - 100
- Multi-Meltas

Heavy Support:

Las/Las Predator - 180
- Extra Armor

It's just a basic list. pretty straightforward, but so far it's melted (no pun intended) everything it's come up against. Thoughts?

Hard to go wrong with vulkan I guess.

I'd be tempted to drop the termies for more attack bikes and maybe sternguard or another tacsquad, or a dakka pred.

Do you find that the termies earn their place?

I like salamnaders lists but at 1500 your a little light on the troops side of things with only 2, grand for friendlys (should that have been friendlies?) bad for objective battles

I love Vulkan and can see that you are trying to make the most of his special ability.

However there are a couple of things I would look to change if you fancy being a little more competitive:-

Only 1 drop pod. Your dreadnought is going to drop and be all on his lonesome leaving him VERY vulnerable. If you want to keep him then I would look at getting 2 more pods to provide more of a threat. Sterngaurd with combi-meltas always
work well in a Vulkan list with the dreadnought adding to the firepower and offering a CC deterent.

Put one of the tactical squads into the third pod to drop on the home objective later on in the game. Try to get combi-meltas on the sergeants as well as they could just turn the game in your favour.

I guess the list would look like this:-

DROP CONTINGENT

Vulkan (190pts)

8 Sterngaurd Veterans + 4 combi-meltas + power fist + drop pod (280pts)

Dreadnought + heavy flamer + drop pod (150pts)

10 marine Tactical squad + meltagun + combi-melta + missile launcher + drop pod (220pts)

GROUND CONTINGENT

5 Assault Terminators + land raider redeemer (440pts)

10 marine Tactical squad + combi-melta + meltagun + multi-melta + rhino (220pts)

TOTAL = 1500pts

Hope it helps......

Assuming the Land Raider doesn't get fragged on turn 1, they more than earn their place. Case and point (though not necessarily a great one), the termies arrive on my opponent's flank turn 2 (with Vulkan in tow), proceed to wreck 2 Devilfish, obliterated 3 crisis suits (who deep struck too close due to being unable to reroll strikes), and two troop units before my opponent turned every single gun on them (which one survived, miraculously), which left my army open to wreck everything that was still standing. They seem to do very well for me, but I'm always open to new ideas.

I like this list. It would make a good alternate list at my FLGS.

But just to elaborate on my drop pod nonsense: the dread, first time it was run, was to act as a DoA drop, dropping next to the juiciest target(s) and having a field day before getting fragged. After that, it kinda seemed to stick. Though, this new list gives me some more options to run. I'll have to try them out.

The pred will get lonely at the back by himself. Maybe a rifledread would be better so it can slowly make its way forward whilst being to hit back in cc. Also your pred is expensive.

The attack bikes and the dread are both suicide melta units, they are bound to die which is fine but do you need two? Plus HF/MM speeders would do a better job than the role of the attack bikes.

The Landraider is a lot of your points in one model, with the occupants needing the vehicle to have a fun time.

Basically you have 4 gambles there, that is a little too many. I am going to say the most important is the 'raider.

So I would suggest another rhino. Guess that means sternguard or another tactical squad, this will cover the land raider and will support the other rhinos better.
Especially if you have three rhinos, you want meltas shooting out of rhinos, I would have 1 antiinfantry but 2 antitank. Antiifantry could be 4 combimeltas and 2 heavy flamers as a 6 man sternguard, then melta and combimelta for your tactical squads.

Then another pred will support the long range attack and make the suicidal elements less important as you can shoot important targets from range.

The following is 1540. It leaves your suicide melta squads at home to supply extra protection for the raider, whilst giving you a bit more long range attack so you can wait to get into melta/flamer range
Vulkan 190
termies in 'raider 450
5 sternguard with 2 combimeltas and 2 heavy flamers 190
Tac. rhino, ML,combimelta, melta,fist 235

I agree w bulldog.

Not much of a fan of dreads, have run them with success incl a ironclad taking down a LR in CC however I generally regard them as bullet magnets and you will cry when you face MC with I5.

Pred is good however never use armor as you really don't want to move this tank, just shoot everything every turn. EA good rhinos if you points to spare.

At 1500 you need get value from tacs thus if you can I would load them with fists, especially if Vulcan prompts you to take MM and advance into danger, then they give back and don't give away KP easy..

Otherwise what bulldog said
