So I had sworn off GW until they updated the Necron codex, as I was only interested (read afford) one army. Well lo and behold after many many years of waiting that time has arrived!

I've been doing some research (red trolling) on Dakka and other 40K related forums for a general idea of how I should play these awesome new models and changes that we have at our disposal. Below is my attached army list.

750 Pts - Necrons Roster

HQ: 140 pts
1 Overlord, 140 pts Staff of Light; Resurrection Orb; Upgrade to Phaeron

: Royal Court 25 pts
1 Harbinger of the Storm

Troops:
5 Immortals, 85 pts Tesla Carbine
5 Immortals, 85 pts Tesla Carbine
10 Warriors, 130 pts Gauss Flayer

Heavy Support: 180
2 Annihilation Barge, 180

Fast Attack:
7 Canoptek Scarabs, 105 pts

So a few things of note, my meta group has a IG, a SM , and a Tau player. So I've got a large variety of things to be concerned with. As we're doing a round-robin style tournament I can't exactly swap and tailor my army against a particular foe.

The plan is pretty straight forward... use the scarabs to tear down any armored vehicles. If they get blasted well that kind of sucks... However it keeps fire from being shot at my troops so there is that... The lack of a spyder to replenish the scarabs kind of bothers me as well so I'm wondering if it is even worth the trouble of bringing them along. I also have the AB's for some pretty reliable Anti Armor. The addition of the cryptek is there for one round of night fighting to help me get my troops into position. My concern with this is that most Imperial units have search lights. So is it worth the points to bring the Tek? Finally, I have a concern about the unit size of the immortals. They seemed to hold up ok in a battle I fought the other day with the same group. We did 500 pt teams for 1000 on each side.

So what do you all think? Is this viable? Is my strategy sound or am I completely off base here?

I appreciate the input

Seems reasonable at that points value. Where are you putting the Cryptek? With the Warriors?

My main suggestion would be to turn the Overlord with random pointless gear and the Harbringer of the Storm (yuck) into an Overlord with Warscythe on CCB for 180 points. This also requires you to free up 15 points but that isn't so bad. I honestly think you might have too many troop choices for this level. If you do want to keep them, I would suggest splitting the Warriors into two squads of five. The other option would be to drop the Warriors entirely to gain points for the CCB Overlord, 5 more Immortals, and 2 more Scarabs. That would give you:

Overlord with Warscythe in CCB
5 Immortals tesla
5 Immortals tesla
5 Immortals tesla
9 Scarabs
2 Annihilation Barges

Total:750

I'd also probably consider dropping something to get a Harbinger of Destruction with a Solar Pulse.

I wouldnt say the overlords gear was random or pointless, I assume Phaeron is to give the warriors relentless and the orb to make them last longer.

However I would only use him this way in a unit of immortals (infact my royal court list does exactly that), the staff of light and phaeron boosting the immortals gauss fire.

I would suggest converting the Cryptek to Destruction though just for some decent ranged anti rank.

Soon his foes would learn that the only thing more dangerous than a savage three hundred pound brute is a savage three hundred pound brute with a plan - Ork Codex

Canada!

You don't have any cryptek's with night fighting at the moment. You just have the one that has a haywire gun. I'm sure this is just a mixup, but the one with night fighting upgrades is Harbinger of destruction. It costs 35 and can purchase 1 turn of night fighting for 20.

I like your Phaeron + warriors idea, but I understand that the resurrection orb is a bit overcosted on just 10 warriors. He can also never join his squad in their 24 range fun, so he becomes a really pricy upgrade. He does make a really nice Charge nanny, but he will get expensive with those upgrades.

If you really don't like your scarabs, consider either making room for some more warriors to put the phaeron and orb to work for you, loading up with a couple more crypteks in your relentless infantry, or grabbing another barge.

I also like JGrand's List, but I think there can be merit in your Phaeron warriors idea.

I was in a bit of a rush when I was typing the list up and didn't have my 'Dex in front of me so I did choose the wrong Cryptek. Sorry for the confusion there. The point of the Overlord was indeed for the purposes of relentless. But I see your point regarding the fact that he just becomes a huge point sink for just a unit of 10 Warriors. Perhaps in a larger battle this might be something I may consider messing with.

I had considered running a CCB for the purposes of cracking open tanks and heavily armored units. Has this strategy been proven effective? I'm really afraid of return fire on him. Although I suppose between the AV 13 and Symbiotic repairs he should be able to shrug off most attacks.... Can someone give me a quick run down on how they would place / move the model in this way. I tend to play to defensively and don't often use models in this way so I think this information would really help me as a player in general.

I really like Jgrands list and I think I will most likely try running that against this group. I'll post up my results when the mini-tourney is completed. Thanks for the input!
