The game is currently in 5th edition.

The current Ork codex was written towards the end of 4th edition, but was written to be forwards compatible with 5th edition, as the 5th ed rules had by that time been pretty much completed.

Yup, and its still competetive too.

"While it is true that there is a very small sub-species of geek who are adept at assembling small figures and painting them with breath taking detail; the rest of us are basically the paste eating retards who failed art class. Because of this, what we build never even faintly resembles the picture on the box when we're done." - Coyote Sharptongue

Eldar and Orks are the only 4th Ed dex's that are still competitive.

Templars are pretty damn solid now that the faq has sorted them out.

The only *really* 'uncompetetive' armies right now imho are;
- Daemons (5th is about mech which requires daemons to tailor to, and GK's exist)
- Tau (Early 4th ed 'dex that's really showing it's age badly!)
- Tyranids (GK's, FnP BA's & SW's exist)
- Sisters (WD made them boring as feth)

All 4 of those armies can still compete per say, but each requires a specific formula for their list which tends to be a 'one-trick-poney' and becomes damn boring after about the 5th game!
Point is, you don't play those 4 armies to be competitive, you play them because they're your favourite!

I totally agree with Harriticus, they are the only older (4th ed) codexes that can still compete regularly.

Have to disagree with Experiment 626 though. In response to nids. I`ve been playing them regularly and i`m having much success and enjoyment from playing nids.

Sisters as well, IMHO. They aint amazing but when you win the victory is sweeter.

I wouldn't say Daemons are totally uncompetitive, it just takes a bit of finesse, luck and power-building to make them work. The one Daemon player at our FLGS is consistently at the top of the league, and it's not for lack of skill on everyone else's part.

Kind of sort of, helped the way I already played them at least. Then again I didn't go with Immo spam anyway.
