If you know black templars you know you need to pick a vow. I am new to black templars and need help picking. (sorry if this is in the wrong place im new to dakka too sorry)
I have narrowed it down to to vows abhor the witch destroy the witch. it basically gives a 5 up save to physic attacks and they are immune to minor physic attack and in the beginning of the game if the enemy has a pskyer every unit makes a d6 move towards the nearest enemy unit.
Next is accept the challenge no matter the odds. this is what everyone has been saying is the best because it gives everyone with a weapon skill preferred enemy. but as i read the fine print it says any unit that can charge in your army must so this seems like a huge disadvantage because charging at times can be bad. i am so confused please help dakka!!!

I played Black templar for about 3 years, off and on. The general consensus is Accept any Challenge. Abhor the witch is very situational, and getting those re-rolls is a huge advantage. In my opinion it's worth it simply for the look on your opponents face that has never played against black templars and you tell them basically your whole army gets rerolls...

If you play a CC army Accept any challenge. It is really useful and if you get a bad roll you can still get a chance of doing something

Accept any Challenge is a flat upgrade to every model in the army with a weapon skill, and has no drawbacks. Take it every time, it's better than moving an extra 6" at the beginning of the game or losing the ability to take cover altogether for a 6++ or whatever.
