An interesting question was raised by a friend of mine while he was spying on my codex: Trazyn can capture objectives, however when he joins a unit (being an IC) does he confer that ability to the unit he joins? Basically, if you stuck Trazyn in a big block of Lychguard with Shields and sat them next to an objective, would they be able to capture it? Or would Trazyn himself have to be within the 3", rather than another member of the unit?

As his rules says that HE may capture objectives, not that he and the unit he is with may i would suggest that he must be with the 3"

Yeah, unfortunately it specifies trazyn, so only he can claim it. If it said him and unit then ok, but it doesnt, sorry.

You could still do the camping with lynchguard and shield though, and on last turn of the game anounce that he is leaving the unit, then surround him with the guard. He now gets a cover save from the guard. >

He has to move more than 2" away form the unit for him to have left the unit, so you would need a loose ring around him.
If he is within 2" of a unit he is eligible to join at the end of his movement he MUST join it.

I don't think he has to abandon a unit to claim an objective, but if he is joined to a non-troop he will have to be the model that is within 3" to claim the point.

It says trazyn may claim objectives in the rules. It doesn't mention the unit he's with in one fashion or another. So, how i read it is, while he doesn't confer onto his unit 'scoring' status, if his model is within range to claim an objective then the Necron player should get it.

I agree. When the game ends just check if Trazyn is within 3" of the objective.
