This is a really stupid question but with barrage weapons i.e (Basalisk, etc) do you have to rol to hit with the template instead of saying oh the template is over you so it auto hits you and all your men.

You would roll to scatter like all other blast weapons, anything under the template is hit.

Just to nitpick, you use the blast marker. The template is the teardrop-shaped thing. And yes, I do realize, most people use the words interchangeably, however...

Squidman told you the right procedure. He just erroneously used the word "template", which has a specific meaning in the 40k rules and isn't used by the earthshaker cannon.

IIRC the Basilisk uses the large blast template ( 5in in diamiter) and after the 2D6 and Scatter dice have been rolled, what ever models are under the template are automatically hit but not wounded. You then follow the stander procedure for wounding. Hope this helps!

Unless firing indirectly (meaning no proper line of sight but able to still fire in an arc) the normal prodecure for using this and small blast markers is to roll 2d6 plus a scatter dice and subtract BS from the number. For example if you rolled a and a south direction with IG BS of 3 you will move the marker 4 inches south before resolving hits/misses. Indirect fire just removed the BS from the equation. So the same rusult of 7 to the south would then be 7 inches to the south since BS wasn't calculated into indirect fire.Template/flamers normally will not scatter unless stating so in rules


"Large blast/Pie-plate"= 5 inch marker

"Small blast/cup cake" = 3 inch marker

"Template/flamer" = teardrop shaped

Most ordanice will let you know it's size by these notations. Basi shoots large blast, Plasma cannons shoot small blast, hellhounds fire templates.

The template is the elongated teardrop thing you use for flamers. The two circles are technically blast markers, not templates. Although everyone and their squig calls them templates as well.

In a rules discussion though, it is important to use the correct terminology.
IIRC, the old Hellhound template used to scatter (I can't remember if it still does)
