Hello all. I found out about this forum, and so far am very impressed! But in looking around I found it a little hard to find information aimed at newer players. So I would like to ask this great community for a little bit of help.

First, I have heard that 6th edition is right around the corner, as well as possible new codex for the Eldar. I am worried about purchasing units for my Army in fear that the models I buy will become useless or completely written out of the codex like the Necron Pariah just was. Is this something I should really be worried about when I am just starting to collect my very first army?

Second, I bought the Eldar Battleforce as many other places online suggested that the Battleforces are a great way to start any new army. After I finish assembling and painting all that came with this set, where should I head next in my army collecting?

Third, What are just some very basic tactics that almost all Eldar players should know. Is that even possible? From what I have gathered thus far is that there are two ways to go about an Eldar army, lots of vehicles, and no vehicles at all.

Thanks everyone!!

A. Necron Pariahs are perfectly fine Lychguard. Their background changed, but not the utility of the miniatures if you prefer the old ones over the new ones.

B. Preserving the use of old models generally is a high priority with GW. Expect to see much of what is today in metal/finecast to get new plastics if/when Eldar get a new release in a possible new edition (most Aspect Warriors in particular, HQ). But I am sure you will be able to use the actual models with a new Codex.

C. Most of what is already today in plastic should be a very safe bet (Battleforce contents, which you already have, new Fireprism/Nightspinner and the new Heavy Weapon Platforms obviously, Wraithlord, Warwalkers, Vypers, etc.., I would be very surprised if any of these change). Jetbikes may or may not get new models.

6th edition is coming up this summer, but if it follows the tradition of 3rd through 5th editions, it shouldn't be a radical departure. Think evolution and not revolution. As for the date of a new Eldar codex, it fluctuates wildly. Some folks say they'll come out in the summer, some day they won't be out til 2013. Nobody's really sure at this point.

A good next step for your army would be to get a Wave Serpent and stick some Fire Dragons in there. Fire Dragons are excellent anti tank units, and putting them in a transport like that lets them get close to their targets.

The great thing about Eldar is the variety and the fact that you have to balance your army to make it effective, so you need to play with combinations against different types of opponents. You'll get those saying "the only decent build is...". This is not really true, it might be true if you want to win tournaments but as a fun game the combinations are the best thing about Eldar for me. I built my army deliberately cheaply using only what E-Bay could supply so it was largely cobbled together in bits and pieces. Working out how to combine them was a great fun experience and involves lots of colourful and different units. Eldar are a good army, not the easiest to handle but great, great fun! Enjoy.

As a former eldar player, i can tell you that the battleforce is great.

Next thing you should buy is a farseer definite, GET FARSEER AHAHAH!!

Some tactics could be: to put the farseer with the dire avengers in the vehicle you get with the battleforce and cast guide on the dire avengers ( lets them re roll failed to hit rolls) and to also cast doom on the unit you are going to shoot at ( lets you re roll failed to wound ), you then get the dire avengers out and use bladestorm which lets you fire 3 shots, 3 shots times the 5 avenger = 15 shots with at least about 12 hitting, these shots should negate most things armour saves especcialy swarm armies.

After you buy your farseer get another squad of dire avengers so they can also follow up behing the vehicle and bladestorm the opponents, but these guys cant re roll failed to hit rolls because you farseer would of casted it on the unit inside the vehicle.

Once you shoot, get back in, go somewhere else and keep doing that.

Hope that helps
