Ok so i am a Khador player for some time and i am ready to branch to another faction. the big reason is i am trying to become a Press Ganger to help my FLGS so i need a second BattleBox. i am going to be getting the Cygnar BB and i may branch into them later. So i would like to know what strong and weak points they have. i know for sure i will be getting pNemo later on to have fun with.

Well, I've never played Cygnar, but I've faced them more than my fair share. They have a lot of great tools at their disposal and some of the most powerful casters in the game, in my opinion. Their ranged game is second to none and anyone fighting them shouldn't be fooled into thinking their 'Jacks can be trashed just because they aren't as big and armored as Khador or Menoth stuff. They can hold their own in close combat most of the time. Their big failing, again, in my opinion, is their infantry. Like I said, they have a lot of tools, but some are overly specialized and highly conditional and a lot functions better on paper than in practical application. Also, most of their infantry falls short when going toe to toe with other factions' infantry units of the same caliber and type. Honestly, there's a lot to love about Cygnar and I've been tempted to cross that bridge myself if I didn't swear to eternally hate them for being so.... Cygnar. Going from Khador to Cygnar, depending on your Red Army play style, will be a challenge. In my experience, Khador plays extremely aggressive while most Cygnar will pace the game and tear you down piece by piece.

Moz:
You: "Hold on, you rammed, that's not a tank shock"
Me: "Ok so what is a ram, lets look at the rules."
Rulebook: "A ram is a special kind of tank shock"
You: "So it's a tank shock until it hits a vehicle, and then it's a ram, not a tank shock, and then it goes back to being a tank shock later!"
Me: "Yeah it doesn't really say any of that in here, how about we just play by what's written in here?" |

As a Cygnar player... yeah, that sounds about right.
I mean, we're not Cryx or anything, but Cygnaran infantry is generally fragile and specialized.
That said, if you're getting the battlebox... buy the Black 13th Strike Team too, and you'll have a fifteen point bundle of everything that makes Cygnar great: Stealth negation, good shooting, lots of tricksy ways to make other Warmachine players hate you, and Hordes players hate you for completely different reasons.
And, pStryker's a good 'caster to learn the faction with because he forces you to use your ARMY well rather than relying on him for support.

Well i probly don't play as aggressive as most Khador... my main opponent is a Cryx Player that favors Skarre, DJ, and Full Banes with UA. Combine is my Xmas to him. he got me the G Bears =]
Anyways, pNemo is one of the casters i am seriously looking at playing. the ranged aspect may be something i look into for his list along with Nodes.

The biggest trap I have seen with new Cygnar players is that they go overboard on shooting/ranged lists. As a Cygnar player you really have to bring some sort of melee infantry...sorry your in combat by turn 3 at the latest and then your shooting is useless.
I think pStryker is the best caster to learn the game with as he has everything a cygnar caster could want. His feat is annoying but it usually buys you a turn, which honestly cygnar wants.
After going with the 15 point bundle (BB + B13th), I would look at getting Gorman (to tag along with B13th), Squire, Arlan and Jr. for solos, then a unit of something. Gun Mages or Stormblades preferably (Sword Knights are a useful speed bump as well.

I understand where your coming from. and my list is actually balanced. i am looking at running the StormGuards. there is a discussion on PP Forums in the Cygnar community where i posted the same question and had a better response.
those 3 solos are on the list. i already have gorman lol. and i am looking at Thunderhead, Thorn, B13, StormSmiths and the Storm Guard. and i am getting the BB first because i need it for Press ganger and its always nice to have them.

Honestly, for what it costs, the Thunderhead just feels so "meh" to me most of the time. There is seldom a game when I haven't been able to say "I coulda used a Stormclad instead and had a couple more points to pick up a solo."
Many times its "is this worth a Stormclad and Carvolo?"

I liked the THead with Nemo versus Warmachine armies. He gets in range of the enemy caster with 5 focus and it's over. He's also pretty good against high def infantry. The lightning ranged attack is not tied to a system so as long as he's standing, it's a threat.

and thats kinda where i am going with THead, i understand he can do what an Stormclad can do better but that capability to pulse 3 times and wipe out a chunk of infantry just makes him be a possible primary for pNemo. we'll find out if i like him or not. once i order the faction deck i will probly be running a couple proxied pNemo lists to get it down in stone what i like. ill still orde rhte OFC items. like B13, Squire JR, and Arlan. Thorn is in there and still gotta decide on Main beat face Jack and melee. ofc Gorman is in there to travel witht he B13 so they can murder things. and i am debating, StormGuard? as well what about the StormSmiths. i understand they can do what Eiryss can do but Eiryss doesn't have Immunity Lightning. if i want to clear some threats close to them i can cast Chain on them lol. they take nothing. Eiryss i can't target(stealth) and she would Die. >.> but they are not in stone.

If you want a beatstick for Nemo, I'd start with the Stormie, the Hammersmith, and Rowdy. I found stormsmiths to be far more useful at whacking high def solos since they don't roll to hit. They're also a cheap sacrificial piece.

i usually play Khador but i have had a look at the cygnar units and made a list for fun
unlike most cygnar lists it was made mainly of melee units and warjacks
people mistaken cygnar for a faction thats chatchphrase is "if you havnt one by turn 3 you have lost"
cygnar really offer a wide range of different unitS.
