In the wargear line for most SM armys it will say CC weapon, bolt pistol, Bolter. i have always seen this as CC weapon and pistol, or Bolter since of the two one handed weapons you really cant carry 3 weapons and use them all.

I was told by a SW player that he can have a unit modeled with a bolter, switch to the ChainSword and pistol (they were modeled with them on his belt) at the movement phase, and shoot the pistol in the shooting phase and then assault and still get the extra attack from the pistol.

have i been playing wrong? are the models armed with all 3 weapons if it states that in the wargear? or its it either or?

to better explain what he did is
turn one, moves and fires bolter at 18"
turn two switched to Chainsword and pistol, fires pistol in shooting, then assaults with the extra attack from two CC weapons. is the switch and having 3 weapons allowed?

If it states it in the wargear, you have all 3. You don't delcare to switch, you just declare what you're firing. He could have not done anything during the shooting phase, then assaulted and gotten the extra attack from 2 CCW.

What's listed in the wargear section isn't optional - it's the default issue.

As Pistols are Assault 1 weapons, yes.

Yes. To CLARIFY, you can fire any assault weapon (meaning a weapon of the "assault type" such as a meltagun) and still receive the bonus from having two close combat weapons (a pistol counts as a close combat weapon for these purposes). Keep in mind though not everything counts as a close combat weapon, special weapons like power fists and lightning claws only receive the bonus for having two close combat weapons if you have two of the special weapon.
Suffice to say, i'm not a rulebook and you weren't asking for all this, so your question answered and you can go to your rulebook for more information.

I understand the rest of the rules, i didnt know that you can shoot a whole game with a bolter, then one turn "switch" to a CCW and pistol, and get the +1A in assault.

the unit in question was a grey hunter squad.

FYI, Space Wolves are the only loyal Space Marine army to keep their close combat weapons. All the rest lost their in newer revisions. Chaos does retain theirs, however...

It doesn't. Read the wargear entry. They are armed with a bolt pistol and a bolter. They have to lose one or the other to get a close combat weapon.

I guess I am the only one that caught this little bit of wrong.

Bolters cannot be fired to 18" on the move unless the unit had Relentless somehow(Logan Grimnar could have granted it to them if he was attached to the unit; but that must be declared).

Your opponent still could have turn 1 moved, and fired the Bolter's 2 shots to 12", but if he moved he does not get the 1 shot beyond 12" and to the maximum range without relentless(this is found in the rapid fire rules in the BRB); then on turn 2 fired the pistol and assaulted.

In the event that Logan was with the grey hunters and granted them relentless(or they gained relentless in any other way, such as the BM kill teams); then the model could have moved, fired his bolter with the 2 shots, then assaulted and received the +1A for having Pistol and CCW.

You can fire any weapon and still recieve it, it doesn't have to be an assault weapon. So long as you have a pair of, close combat weapons, a close combat weapon and a pistol (which is treated as an additional close combat weapon in CC), or a pair of the same special weapons, then you can fire whatever gun you want during your shooting phase and still recieve the bonus attack in any subsequent assault phases.

So you mean he moved 6" and fired 12"? Because the OP implies that he moved 6" and then fired 18" (notice he says 'at 18"'), but it's impossible to still reach combat in turn 2 like that, which is the only way you can realise he meant move 6" and fire 12".

The OP's post was badly written, and I don't blame Kel for thinking something was up.

my bad, i didn't explain the situation right, but my question was can you have multiple weapons and use them in that way. not the ref to rapid fire, i didnt know you could fire bolters one turn then whip out a chainsword and pistol and get the +1A.

Just make sure to fire the pistols and not the bolters if you want to charge.
