Subject: [Kryomek] Has anyone played it?

Ultramarine Master with Gauntlets of Macragge

I checked around and saw nothing recent on Kryomek so I thought I'd give Dakka a looksee!
So I was digging through my old stuff at my folks' place and came across my old Kryomek rulebook. I bought it when I was still new to miniatures wargaming and really loved the models, but never got around to playing the game. Reading through the rulebook (awesome early 90s artwork and all) I'm really interested in trying the game out. I have a few questions from a cursory glancing through though:
- Where are points costs and the like? I'm looking in the hardware section and I see tanks and infantry and so on, but no real frame of reference as to how to build an army. Is it just sort of an "eh, that looks good to me" approach to army balance or what?
- I've pretty much exclusively played 40k for the last few years and it sounds like there's a lot of bookkeeping in this game. Does it get confusing?
- How is it balanced for human vs. human play? I've got tons of the Nexus guys lying around and choice few actual Kryomek bugs and I figure it could be interesting for some sci fi skirmishes.
- What is the community like for this, if there's one at all? I know the game's very old, but I remember seeing models for sale as recently as 2008 at Historicon. Are there still minis coming out?
Thanks, Dakka!

You CAN still get the models from Scotia-Grendel.
I did play it for a while in the early 90s (along with Battletech) and still have my Storm striders and 6 wheeled vehicles, but the nexus dudes I did have seem to have gone astray.
I don't know of any groups still playing it, but there is probably at least one somewhere. The pics on the Scotia-Grendel site are done by a guy called "bagpuss" and were put up in the last couple of years.
It's relatively balanced for human v human (intercorporate warfare) but I can't recall specifics as the book is buried somewhere at the bottom of one of a dozen moving cartons still to be unpacked.

I have some of the resin 'Not Aliens APCs' they're pretty cool. The minis also looked good though I never picked them up.

I had the rulebook for a while. I found it NOS at a very old game store a couple years back. Great art and fluff, but the rules seemed way more crunchy than anything I'd like to play so I sold it.
Do you have the transparency sheets with the blast templates?
If you like Kryomek, you have to take a bit of time to go through this guy's blog. Lots of great pics of painted kryomek figs.

and the rules are now free here:

Yeah, I've seen the hivestoneincursion blogspot page - it's cool that he posts that stuff! I've got about 100 models and I just put a few on 40k bases even though they're often a little big for those bases. The models are great though, especially for early 90s figs. I've read through the rules (as I've got the 1991 rulebook) but I'll need to download the Hivestone expansion from that link in your post, Eilif. There's no points costs in the basic rulebook, or any guidelines to building an army! Fortunately that stuff got added in Hivestone.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

You have to add the rules to your cart and "buy" them, even though they're free. You just place an order like anything else far as I can tell, but they're free of charge.
