With my new-found finances (ie: Christmas Money) I can buy the Vampire Counts Battalion, however I hear that the new codex is coming out and I was wondering if the units in the battalion are still viable, even in the new codex, as I am born with little to no patience and I can't wait till January

Well we don't know whats in the new book, so we don't know how the current battalion will stack up. What has happened in the past few releases is that the battalions do change some and tend to go up in price...so take that for what you will. Its hard to imagine that zombies and skeletons, which are currently maligned by many, will be able to be worse in this next incarnation. Ghouls are really popular right now.

I heard that some of the stuff is the same but they are adding/removing stuff from the battalion but thanks for your advice!

We don't know points costs yet so it's hard to say what to buy. The VC metagame may change dramatically or not at all. Just wait the month IMO.

Any way you decide, I can't see any of the contents of the battalion going astray. Zombies are always fodder for raising units. I can't see them dropping that ability

Even if they do, it's a huge box of core choices. They're always useful, if even only for that big game where you need some extra points, and have a skeleton regiment sitting there.

I wouldn't buy anything until you have seen the new book.

As long as they keep the ability to raise the dead, I'm a happy man

Lost in a blizzard, somewhere near Toronto

JvK over at Libraium On-line hints that the 'new' battalion box will include; 20 skeletons, 10 ghouls, 10 direwolves, 5 black knights/hexwraiths.
That would be an absolutely killer battalion box honestly! But it's likely a 2nd wave release so at least a few months off.

For now, get the current battalion or even 3 if you can! The current one IIRC is still cheaper, or at the very least indie stores might start offering a discount to clear the old stock out?!

Rules-wise we have no idea yet what's changing and/or how. We do know however that the stuff everyone currently bemoans as 'broken & OP' will be nerfed/removed, while the crap choices will likely become more viable.
Hopefully we'll start to get some hints/rumors within the next week or two, but honestly, keep in mind that;
a) Phil Kelly is the author of the new book, so we won't end up Crud or 'Warded' into this edition's "because they're Daemons!"
b) Our book can't get any worse than it currently is! (well okay, they could up the cost of skeletons & ghouls while removing grave guard altogether!)
