Hi Dakka,
I was recently thinking about starting a SM army, but i'm not sure whether
it is worth with the new rulebook and other stuff coming out.
Does any1 know a basic release date for a new SM codex?
Mods, sorry if this isn't the right forum.
Thanks
Norn

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I don't think there are rumors yet but it does get updated every edition so perhaps, as a guess, 6 months at the most after 6th ed gets released.

Please stop formatting your posts like this. It's weird and not friendly to read. 40k's next edition comes out in July, and if 5th edition is anything to go by, Space Marines will get a new codex in the months after. The current Codex: Space Marines came out in October 2008. One can only assume the next codex will be out in 2012. However, there is no concrete evidence of this, and it's purely speculation based on how popular Space Marines are, and how much attention GW gives them.

No problem duder. Even if Marines do get a new codex in the fall (very likely) the old codex will still be good as a fluff and painting reference. I love keeping old codices around for that sorta thing. Marines are also a very "safe" army and basic choices like Tactical Marines in Rhinos will never go out of style.

Yeah, because there is nothing really wrong with the kits that are out now. The tactical marines do seem a bit old and boring now, but maybe that is because you see so many of them. The tanks are great though, i really hope GW dont mess with them too much.

If it's in plastic I don't see GW making a new kit out of it. The only thing i think they could change are Predators, insofar as to give them new sponson bits that don't snap off (see Baal Predator) and maybe a few more weapon options. Gotta sell new kits and add new units, you know.

Ahh, I thought I was just being overly rough on my Predator's sponsons - both of them snapped off. Good to know that it's a general issue and not a personal one. ^_^
