Ello all, i have a confession... while working with my cadians ive always had another love, another... type of human that made me fall in love with warhammer 40k... Steel Legion, i know i know! im such a bad army maker! but what should i do? carry on with my cadians, or start a steel legion 1500pt force (interchangeable tanks)? because honestly the cadian bodys do my freaking nutt in! well no sorry thats a lie! its there helmets and positioning of the flamers, half fit snug the other half need trimming (idendical sprews), and the steel legion guys (models people models!) are gawgus! and apart from the heavy weapons teams they are around the same price as a cadian squad AND there (as far as i can tell) comferting metal models! (which i dont have a problem painting).

My tau are about finished, 1 more hammer and another fish to get then im happy but those can wait :3 but what should i do? please fellow dakkians resolve my modelers heart!

Do it! It's what I'm doing

I've given my Cadians a Steel Legion coloured set of fatigues while I wait for the money for the models and have repainted my tanks to be Steel Legion too

Go for it. No point collecting & painting something when you don't really want to, so if you feel the Steel Legion bug then sate it.
What you could do is start it off as a combined regiment - get Steel Legion models, build & paint them and field the Cadians alongside them until you have enough SL models to replace the Cadians.

You could start a combined regiment. I don't know but that could be cool, and that way you can use all your models.

The meaning of victory is not merely to defeat your enemy but destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavors, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory.

I'm doing a combined regiment with partial steel legion + Death korps. Fluff goes that the steel legion tanks and some infantry got absorbed by the Death korps infantry. For the sergeants, I'm using storm trooper models as this was the reminent of several groups from a devestating hive war. Kind of stealing the #314 Prosan idea mixed in with the Vervun Hive war back drop from Gaunt's Ghosts.

Command teams are all Krieg, HW teams turned out to be steel legion, Infantry backbone/vets are Krieg grenidiers with 2 squads of Steel Legion thrown in there. Tanks are going to be mixed steel legion + some inquisition colors for the storm troopers + some dark grey ones for Krieg colors.

I'm tempted to also throw in that the Steel legion troopers are all Female based loosly on the 1077th Anti-aircraft Regiment from Historical battle of Stalingrad.

I like the Idea I'm making an army with steel vets and cadian model platoons 'cause they're cheaper and the platoons are bigger. Fluff is the cadian regiment was a line company during the third war for Armageddon and the steel were at helsreach

If i'm correct steel legion have a significantly higher percentage of executioners than most other regiments but not sure

well i have my (4th) ed codex with me right now (5th is at my mates atm), iirc it doesnt really mention the different units in the new one, anyway the older codex says mechanised (chimeras) storm troopers (i already have 2 full kin squads and valks for them) ratling and conscripts, nothing in there discription about executioners, but it would make sense for them to have them right? twin linked autos plasma and a heavy bolter, its perfect for taking out nobs and evily armord nobs (well i havent had problems taken them out with 1), i havent read any books reguarding them mind you so any addition information would be appreciated

Steel Legion is 95% percent mechanized (even fought a battle in a factory with chimeras and basilisks) and uses storm troopers and conscripts. If you want a good book to read that has some to do with steel legion read Helsreach by Aaron dembowski-bowden.

Codex Armageddon mentioned that during either the 2nd or 3rd war for Armageddon, Yarrick led Cadian Shocktroopers in assaults against Ork Rokkz. You could have your Cadians mixed with Steel Legion cos of this, and it would be awesome.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And you could use Catachan with looted Ork trophies as Armageddon Ork Hunters (veterans), as with steel legion it's hard to distinguish vets from regulars and you don't get all the useful weapons like meltaguns and sergeant PW's.

Do whichever one catches your interest, but in the long run do both. Any veteran Guard player worth his or her salt knows multiple Guard regiments is where its at.

My previous Guard army had four, this time around I'll be going for at least five. Sorts you out for Apocalypse games as well.
