See if I've covered all the bases. Restricted league

Librarian: w/ Avenger & VoD

Tac Squad: 1 Sgt Combi melta & bombs CS, 4 standard marines.

Tac Squad: 2 Sgt Combi melta & bombs CS, 4 standard marines

Dev Squad 2 ML

Libby runs with Tac in Rhino pressing middle of board, Dev Squad supports against heavy weapon squads and armor.

Hit me with some knowledge.

Unless there's a rule in this league you're short a troops choice. I'd drop the Dev squad and bring a TFC. It's very mean to hordes at this level as Orks can still bring in 40-50 boys while also able to have some lootas to give you grief.

If no TFC more tacticals. There's a couple of things like razor back two squads, rhino a full 10 man. Heck for kicks I once took an assault squad/chaplain. At 500 you have some good variety to bring to bear.

At 500 pts you can have 1 troops choice.

Restrictions are:

No 2+ saves
No Independent Characters
No armor over 44
No models with 4+ wounds.

I think you need a little more cc than a force sword.

Libby with TDA and might would be good.

I would have at least 1 full squad with fist. Happy to lose the devs and two ML to give your troops critical mass.

Aurora SMs in 5th Ed (18 wins, 3 draws, 13 losses)

1st in Lords of Terra Open (Sydney) 2012

Aurora SMs in 6th Ed (3 wins, 0 draws, 5 losses))

IR no brilliant Sm list builder, I just build a few 500-1000 point lists w them for fun to fight my orcs in my garage when buddies are over. But I always like having a Power fist in both tac squads. Marines at 500 points lack some of the oomph that they can get at 1000, but power fists on sargent, and captains w artificer, power sword, and hellfire rounds+Storm bolter at 500 can wreak some Havoc on my Boyz.

I don't know why I never see more marines lists with hellfire rounds (i don't really know them that well as I stated earlier) , but helfire rounds are insanely powerful at 500 points. Assault 2 x Small templates with a 2+ poison with BS4. That is ridiculous.

I didn't think you could do that. I'd have to hit up my codex as I rarely play a Capt. but I didn't think you could get a storm bolter AND hellfire. I think you still need a bolter to get that...

I'm almost positive nothing gives a template let alone two.

Yeah, pretty sure hellfires is simply wound on a 2+, AP3. It might not even be THAT good. The reason they are not seen more often is that most people run characters as their HQ or a libbi. Boys before toys.

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

Hmm I'll have to double check it then. Like I said earlier I don't know SM too well so I may have made an error. I just like having a list or two handy sitting around for when a buddy stops over. My orc list is pretty tough at 500, so I like to have something that can at least hang with it. I might be just making gak up though lol. Let me tell you-it sure kills some orks, even if it doesnt exist!

I think your list is slightly dull, not killy enough and not points efficient. They really are the same point.
If you only need one troop then only take 1.

From your list I would go for 170 tac. squad and 230 dev. squad with 4ML and ten men, then a lib with probably gate and force dome. Footslogging tends to be fine at low cost battles.

Last time something like this came up I thought bikes were the way to go, T4(5) should be good.

We are starting a league here in Missouri and we have similar restrictions. A space marine list that is working well for me and a friend of mine is:

5 man stern guard squad
Las/plas razorback
6 man tactical squad
Las/plas razorback
Libby

You actually have a few points left over to season how you like it but it's been testing really well. My only problem with this list is that I think the las/plas are too much. I think at that points value you need to go assault cannons. Twin linked, more shots, rending is randomly useful...so on and so forth.

Test it and tell me what you think.

It to above: hellfire rounds only show up on two codex entries:
Space marine scouts with a heavy bolter, in which it's heavy one blast poision 2

Or

Stern guard, as one of their special ammunition types, in which case it can only be fired through a bolter, and wounds on a 2+, but does not have a templates. Or, rather, if it does I am SO misplacing my stern guard.

OK just some follow up, the SM captain can take a storm bolter and Hellfire rounds, however it is forced to used the Bolter profile if hellfire rounds are selected and the weapon is then forced to use rapid fire 1 rules. Unfortunately no running around shooting acid at the boyz. I would still recommend it though as a 2+ poison template weapon is still a pretty darn good weapon vs orks.
