WHFB is a lott about leadership saves. Re rolls help with that. Also, the banner can usualy be quite powerfull.

However if you do not use leadership and the banner bearer is a pushover (tomb kings) then do not use him.

I will be using Lizardmen, so giving the Slann the banner would be a good idea? Any particular banners?

Acttually most players do put it on the frof, he's very survivable and AFAIK the only BSB that can have a magic banner and 100 pts of other equpment.
Decent CC banner bearers are for WoC and Ogres, we get magic

Hoverboy got it right.

The real question is....

Slann with TG or without TG?

If the frog is with a unit of TG then give it to the Slann and plant him in there. That unit will make people weep for its resilience. Lore of Life makes that unit one of the toughest things around.

If the Slann is without TG? Then I'd probably give it to a Saurus.

But most folks will say Slann - Slann, TG, rerolling cold blooded stubborn Ld 9 (at the bare minimum!) makes it pretty reliable.

Now only a CSM player.

If you're playing a non-undead army, a BSB is pretty much mandetory as those re-rolls are game changers.

If you play Tomb Kings or Vampire Counts, then the abolsute only reason to spend the pts is because you're looking to include 2 banners in a unit that synergise well together, or else you want a magic banner in a unit that can't take one to being with.
Undead BSB's on their own are generall a waste of pts since the whole army is already immune to psychology and the -1 crumble isn't worth the pts.

Actually the BSB can be critical to a Tomb King army as when your Heiro dies (and since my FLGS now knows how detrimental that can be to my army my Heiro almost always gets targeted) the BSB allows re-rolls on the stabilization checks. Sure, your Ld 5 catapults are done but at least your Ld 8 sphinx and Ld 8 Caskets will stick around if the BSB is nearby.

Current Armies:

Warmachine:
Shae Pirate's Life 50
Durgen attrition 50

WH40K:
Orks (5,000 pt Apoc Kan Wall, 1850 Bikerz)
Grey Knights (1850 Crowe Purifiers, 2500 'Ard Boyz Draigo)
Sisters of Battle (Seraphim spam)

WHFB:
2400 Empire
3000 Tomb Kings

You still get you Tomb King general's Ld boost too. Being a VC player, I keep forgetting you dusty ones work slightly differently!

BSB's in VC's however are pretty much pants outside of the magic banner options though as our General/Heiro is all rolled into one, thus those re-rolls on our average Ld-poop isn't worth it! (sooooo many times I've tried the re-roll and just gotten an even worse result!)

Lizardmen is my primary army and I always field my Slann as the BSB. Typically I run him ethereal and with the stubborn crown, this provides me a very nice way to deal with stanks, flagellants, etc.

I stopped using TG in 8th mainly because I don't run life and
miscasts were brutal.
