Greetings!

I just want to make sure that my group is doing this correctly, I do not have an exact quote from the BRB but when you cast a vortex (purple sun, flame storm, skull storm, etc..) it starts off "touching" the edge of it's parent's base, therefore, seeing as all partials count, the wizard must take a hit from said vortex. Correct?

Because as we are playing this Purple Sun is an extremely dangerous spell to cast unless you happen to be an elf or carry the gold sigil sword. I find that this also balances things significanly because no one is popping vortexes off with lvl 4's willy nilly anymore.

I'd love to know the truth!

Thanks!

Off topic, but this don't work. Gold Sigil sword only makes the attacks at I10, not the models charactristic. It is "touching" by the tiniest amount of particles know to man, but as soon as it moves, (note, vortexes do damage when they move) this strand would be disconnected. While I actually sorta like the idea from a balance perspective, its not how it works.

EDIT: Even if it did work that way, the lvl 4 would still get a look out sir, kinda defeating the point.

No, when you cast the vortex, it doesn't mean that the caster has to take a test. That would just be ridiculous and would make the spell extremely dangerous to cast.

I'm pretty sure that it still counts as a partial, but i agree that a LoS would be able to be taken in this instance. That actually seems extremely balanced now that i think about it, you cast the spell, then if you roll a 1 on your LoS you get hit by it, thats a pretty low chance and I think that this might help ween people off spamming purple sun etc...

EDIT: Just because something is ridiculous isn't relevant in any way when we are talking about a "game of Fantasy Battles" where there are dragons, wizards, elves, orcs, who knows if it makes sense for a wizard to be hit by his own vorte while casting, as far as we know that might be perfectly reasonable considering the spell being cast and how incredibly dangerous it is.

There are cases when a wizrad is hit by his own vortex, they're called misfires.

When you roll a misfire on the artillery dice that hits you? That makes sense...it just seems that as it's written the caster would always be hit by it. I can see how RAI wouldn't support this though, my group only just began using this interpretation though so we can just go bak to normal.

How does it seem the template hits him. You start it INFRONT of his base

Models UNDER the blast marker are hit, not models touched by it.

Subtle but important difference.

@Johnny-Crass
It does touch his base, it has to begin touching it.

@nosferatu1001

This is true! Honestly either way makes sense to me...but since the overwhelming majortiy of people here seem to think I'm obviously wrong then i must be.

Thank you for your replies.

Ok say Kobold The Gnomblar and I are standing next to each other and I press my finger so it is TOUCHING Kobolds forhead. Am I now on Kobold? No I am not but I am touching him.
