Ok, so this might sound a bit anal...sorry if it does...
Quite often, painting articles/posts tell you to mix or thin by a certain paercentage (eg Bleached bone mixed 50% with Khemri Brown)
How do you work out the percentage? I mean, do I just mix two similar sized pools of paint? Do I need to used a syringe? Is is just an etimate?

50/50 would be 1:1 ratio, 75/25 would be 3:1 and so on.

estimate - dip paintbrush into one pot & put onto palette (eg white bathroom tile).
Clean brush, dip in other pot & mix into 1st colour.
Does it look right? (acrylic's great as most of the time, the colour when it's wet will be the same or very similar to when it's dry).
If not, add a bit of which ever paint you think you need to make the mix right.

what ever Aerethan said.
With mixing it, 1:1 would be 1 part one colour and 1 part another. The two parts can be of any quantity, as long as they are the same. E.G. 10 ml of white and 10 ml of green, to make a light green.

Dipping With Wood Stain

With GW color it's always an estimate, because the paint pots are difficult to measure from. For more control I would suggest Vallejo or Reaper, as the dropper bottles are much better for measuring mixing ratios.

It's almost always an estimate. If you're trying to be too precise, the paint you put down on the palette will separate, or the colour you're trying to blend it into will dry... ratios given are best read as a guide only.
It's very rare indeed that a precise ratio would be needed, and in those cases you're better off just buying a pot of that, or whatever is closest. If it's not available mix up a pot of it.
For general highlighting / shading recipes, it'll just be a guide though.

So, essentially, I mix similar sized blobs of paint in the appropriate ratio? I didn't know one could get dropper bottles of paint...That is worth looing at
Thanks everyone

Basically yeah, use similar blobs. One brushful of Paint A, one brushful of Paint B. Remember to use the same brush for measuring in order to get roughly equal size blobs, but also remember to clean your brush before dipping it into the second paint pot. As someone else mentioned, Vallejo and possibly other paint manufacturers use dropper bottles instead of pots to make measuring super easy.

I always use the "spoon" end of the citadel sculpting tool to measure drops. If you are mixing large amounts you might want to go up to an old coctail spoon (if you can find one).
