I fairly new to this but have already started building a 3000+ army of space wolves. Since the razorback turret plates are somewhat expensive to get online and I have several rhinos that I am trying to convert to magnetized razorback/rhino/windicator/predator, I came up with the idea of magnetizing my vindicator front cannon so that I can swap them for front mounted razorback weapons. They are easily visually different from vindicators since I will not add the vindicator top plate, sides, or massive dozer blade during game play. My main question to the forum is - Do the razorback weapons have to be top mounted? I have found no where in the Warhammer rules that state so. I think this will make an interesting conversion and save me on having to find razorback turrets for my vindicators/razorback/rhino tanks that I will have magnetized. Any thoughts or comments?

No, you cannot swap around the turret. It means that your gun might be out of LoS of other models, and it could change the game. Say if you had a pintle mounted SB, normally the turret would block it. If you move it down, you have a free moving Pintle mount.

Should be in YMDC by the way.

I think you're going to get a decent 50 / 50 split of people that have an issue with it and people that dont have an issue with it. Personally I wouldn't care. I'd suggest checking with your gaming group to see if any of them would care as the people you play with are more important then people on a message board.

Also there are some pretty decent aftermarket turrets out there that don't cost much

I don't see anything saying you can't. Mind you some may call it modeling for advantage.

For me I'd say taking it from a Turret to Hull mounted weapon would be balanced. You get a couple more inches yet you lose the rotation.

Rule of cool applies here...

Couple of considerations:
#1 There is a current model that is readily available.
#2 Changing the position of the gun changes what can shoot the razorback and what the razorback can shoot at.
#3 Changing a 360 degree mounted gun to a 45 degree mount is a huge drawback.

All and all I'd say your going to be able to get away with it, with some huffing and puffing. You are not "CLEARLY" modeling for advantage as you are dramatically handicapping yourself by the limited firing arc. That being said, your option is only slightly better than just playing your vindicator as a "counts as" razorback. I'd suggest forking out the cash if your looking to play in any large tournaments.
