So, what I'm trying to find out is a good scheme for DE.

I don't particularly want to simply paint the model black or something similar and put on some extreme highlights.

Rather, I thought I might do a scheme where I blend in from purple through red, orange then finally yellow on the edges.

What would you think about this? Some people commented it may be too bright, but I don't want my army to fit in.

How would you paint it?

I saw a Dark Eldar army at the nearest GW store recently which used a royal blue and lime green scheme. My memory's a little fuzzy, but it looked like Enchanted Blue and Scorpion Green. On the ships' sails he blended the colours together and I didn't see any blotchyness.

Personally if I was doing DE, I think purple and green would look really cool. Prime black, basecoat with Orkhide Shade Foundation or Dark Angels Green, followed by Liche Purple for the armour plates. Blades and other metallics could be done in Chainmail or Boltgun Metal and then washed with either Thraka Green or Leviathan Purple. For a tertiary colour I think Regal Blue would work, or you could go with a sharper contrast like a Mechrite Red or Scab Red.

As a new Dark Eldar player, I've thought a lot about a color scheme, and I'm intending to try something fire themed, with lots of reds, oranges, and yellows, with the metals "warmer" metallic colors like bronze and copper. I was considering some red and black type theme, but it looked too much to me like I was ripping off the Obsidian Rose rather than doing something of my own. If the fire coloration doesn't work out (I still need to get some of the paints I intend to use), I think that a blue and green or purple and green color scheme would be pretty fitting for Dark Eldar.
