Hello dakka community,

Forgive me in advance, this is my first post on the forums and I am a new playing to 40k.

After much contemplation I have decided that the Orks are the army for me and after purchasing the Codex I have put together a few army lists of varying point values. I know the general rules and nuances of the game but don't have specific experience with these units yet because I don't own them yet. I'd like your opinions on the army lists I have put together and hopefully improve any weaknesses the lists have that I have over looked.

500 Point List
HQ – Warboss - Power Klaw, Boss Pole, Cybork Body, ‘eavy Armor (105)
Troop – 11 Slugga boyz - trukk (101)
Troop – 12 Slugga boyz - trukk, Nob with Power Klaw and Boss Pole (147)
Troop – 12 Slugga boyz - trukk, Nob with Power Klaw and Boss Pole (147)

Elite – 10 Burna Boyz – Trukk with ram (190)
Elite – 5 Lootas (X)

Elite – 11 Burna Boyz – Trukk with ram (205)
Elite – 5 Lootas (X)
Elite – 5 Lootas (X)
Heavy Support – Looted Wagon – boomgun (105)
Heavy Support – Looted Wagon – boomgun (105)
Fast Attack – 7 Stormboyz (X)
Total 2000 points exactly

Just as a side note the nob biker squad will be joined by the warboss biker of course and because of the unique equipment there should be plenty of wound allocation shenanigans. The Big Mek (or warboss on foot for the 500 point team) joins the only trukk without a Power Klaw/Boss pole Combo.

Thank you for your feed back.

Sincerely,
Psiosis

Wow... yeah.

Not sure how I missed that.

Battlewagon then?
If so should I be aiming for 20 Burnas or is that too much?

They can only be taken in squads of 15. Even then I would say that is too many.

If you only take say 5-8 in a battlewagon that seems like a waste of wagon space to me. Then again what do I know.

Anyone have some in game experience with burnas in wagons and if so how do you normally set up the wagon?

I'm pretty sure you need 1 big shoota to avoid the weapon destroyed becoming immobilized. But other than that are there "Key" upgrade purchases?

It seems like a waste to have the burnas in the battlewagon because of all the empty seats but putting them in a looted wagon wouldn't give them the open top/ stacking flame template effect would it?

Sincerely,
Psiosis

Alright you git time to teach you how to be a ork! i been playing orks for 3 years and have some good lists and some domb lists.

Burna Boys are funtastic! they are always worth their weight in gold. Definitly stick them a in a open top battle wagon with a mek with a custom force feild. This makes a 4+ cover save on the vech and give the mek a burna too. With a full squad of burnas yo get 16 templets to drop on 1 unit. I dont care what inifintry it is. it is DEAD. 16xWhat you hit is awesome like that.

Next up since you covered your assult force is a support force. i suggest 20 lootas two squads of ten. These will pop transports for you to melt the contents off into something stupid.

FEAR AV 14.
Now you got your elites and a Hq take some troops i suggest a good 60-90 boys. You want squads of thirty as your boys will ALWAYS be blown to bits.

After that A warboss to lead them is a good idea. if a big game like 2kpts or more. i suggest grazskull his auto 6 waghh will carry you through the worst. Next up a warboss to lead the boys he is strength 10 everyday of the week charged or not. I also suggest a attack squid and evy armor for him and hide him in the boys and it wont matter your assults will be deadly if your boys are supporting a battle wagon. Final dreads are a good bulet magnet and will buy your wagona few stray shots it doesnt need to take.

A looted wagon with av 11 is paper to all armies but av 14 and av 12 is some how adamantium to armies with a 4+ save. Anyways hope you enjoyed my advice, i will provide more if you pm me.

Don't mix trukks and dreads/kans. Completely different army styles. Either drop the trukks and buy Kans, or drop the dreads and put the burnas in da wagon.

Now are sometimes fielding one battlewagon, I think some posters are suggesting this. It will become a huge target and die, then you have your most killy unit is left behind.

I like the dread just not in your list. Just too darn slow.

Usually I would at least say 12 burnas is not excessive as you it is the norm to have about that many points of boyz in a battlewagon. Also you'll want the burnas to kill what they hit, that means numbers of burns else the offending unit will crush your wagon and maybe even the burnas whilst they are at it. Also to be effective in combat which they can be they need a good number.

Ranged antitank is slightly missing, I would take kannons or rocket buggies or koptas.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

Regarding the deffdread, the idea was I could use it to stay back and take any objective on my half of the field(since it is troop with the big mek) and it can also guard my lootas/boomguns. I've read many times that droppods/sporepods royally own if you leave your "shooty" units undefended and I figured a double skorcha dread would make them think twice about trying to steal easy kill points

Regarding the 30 boys on foot, The main focus on this list was fast moving, assault on turn two, and I feel that without the trukks that would make the battle wagon EVEN MORE of a target. With the Mek and grotts for the battlewagon it should keep rolling even with heavy firepower (assuming its not destroyed), and at worst that means my trukks will get to assault and my bikers will be up in their face to.

I'm thinking the boomguns may be unnecessary and I could be putting those points towards other things such as more lootas and more burnas.

I think you have good ideas.
Having as much of your stuff being fast things to support battlewagons and get support in return is always a good idea.
Having something to look after lootas and claim objectives is a very important though overlooked point. The dredd is a vehicle so can not claim objectives, it states this in the rulebook when talking about scoring units under missions. If you care certain ravenwing landspeeders and a few dreads for GK can score for some unknown reason.
Boomgun is a good gun it just is not reliable enough.

Take care, Fletch

Thank you Fletch,

So maybe skip the deff dread since the main idea was to use it defensively. It really doesn't fit in with the trukk/battle wagon theme.

Maybe swap if for a squad of shoot boys? let them hang back and guard/hold objectives?

Maybe drop it for upgrades to the Battlewagon and trukks. RPJ, Grots, Armor and Boarding planks go a long way.

The lists do seem a bit low on the Boyz though, but if you want to add more boyz, you will probably want to have them riding in something with the others. Boyz that just sit back are boyz that aren't Krumpin. Leave objective taking to Gretchen.
