OK guys, I have a few points left in my army to spend.

Either I can have:

Ven dread
MM+HF
drop pod

dread
MM
drop pod

OR

Dread
MM+HF
extra armour
drop pod

Dread
MM+HF
drop pod.

Basicly I had 15 points to spare in my 1750 army so I don't know which of the above upgrades will be better.

Choice 1, will restrict my MM dread to be a suicidal dread for taking out tanks and the ven dread as something that can pack a punch and also take a punch.

List 2 will be more blanced since both are the same but I will drop the extra armour dread first into the battle since it has a better chance of survival if its not immoblised or destroyed, it can then move into a combat.

SO guys which do you think is best and how I can use them in my army, tactics please thanks

Generally, drop pod dreads are suicide dreads anyway. I'd go for the second idea.

Use the drop pod dreads to create chaos in your enemy's army, while the rest of your army advances with less fire hitting them. Hit any bothersome tanks with the MM, or try to hit the important units like troops keeping objectives.

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

i was gonna rely on the first dread to kill some tanks then the second ven dread to come in and kill tank or infantry also by then my opponet will have less fire power and being a ven dread it might survive. but I guess being an all comer is better than just 1 tactic

The second options sounds better to me.

What is your list?
Are the drop pods the medieval things those crusaders have that arrive on turn 2 onwards?

Usually I would go for plasmacannons as one would be lacking range and templates. Suicidal melta is supplied by attack bikes if you can afford the luxury.

Or for the same price three dreads with plasma cannons but alas no drop pods.

Venerable Dreadnought
Plasma Cannon
Extra Armor

Reason; Your Skirmisher.
The ven dread is the one dread that has the BS to make a plasma cannon accurate, and an accurate plasma cannon is a scary scary thing to many enemies thanks to it's range, str and ap. The storm bolter compliments the range of the Plasma cannon and offsets it's blast rules, while the extra armor helps you when deciding to make an opponent re-roll on the damage chart (ignore shaken/stunned results essentially as he'll always at least be able to move).

Dreadnought
Multi-Melta
Heavy Flamer
Extra Armor*
Drop Pod

Reason; Your kamikaze unit (generally).
Should he by the grace of the Emperor live past his landing and shooting, he is still sporting exactly the weapons you want to take on anything behind enemy lines.

*10 points to spend elsewhere If I'm reading the OP correctly and there was still 15 pts spare to begin with. Dozer blades? Melta-bombs? A hunter kill missile?

Otherwise, if there were no 15 pts spare to begin with, drop the extra armor from the dread and you'd still have 10 pts spare.

The ven. dread has BS4?
Also why is having a dread able to move such a big issue if you have him lined up for some long ranged shooting. I guess I do not see it being very likely that the enemy has caused the damage but then left you close enough to assault.

Ok guys, none of my dread are for long ranged shooting.

I have 5x 5 man termi squad with cyclone missile for ranged shooting and tank busting.

the dread are there to kill dug in objective holding troops or heavy tanks, predators, land raiders (any heavy support)

The BS for vendread does't seem to be any better than normal, in the DA codex (its old) unless there is a faq about it. I am not using them as long ranged shooting.

However, i am using the dreads as suicidal dread for taking out important targets that will hurt my termis.

I guess I can always switch between the two choices i gave since its not much difference LOL

Ah, didn't know you are actually using the DA codex, my apologies.

The second option in that case.
