So I see Vampire Counts and Empire are on the fantasy horizon. I don't play fantasy but I make a lot of use of their zombies and Empire militia.
Since both are over 10 years old should I stock up or will GW be keeping them around a while longer?

No new zombies with the new book. GW seem content with the old models.

I doubt GW are honestly 'happy' with the current zombies, but they had other kits that were crying for attention a helluva lot more than zombies! (like those sexy new black knights! )
I wouldn't be surprised if zombies get a re-do in 6-7 years come the 9th ed book however.
As for empire? Again, considering how well the militia still kit-bashes with the zombies I'm expecting them to stick around too, since we have rumors for new inner circle knights, demigryph knights, war alter/wizard throne, possible war wagon and new plastic karl franz on deathclaw.
Of course, empire players are also whining about wanting new state troops too.

The worst offences with the zombie kit is making pretty static looking zombies (which, to be fair, need to still rank up) and being out of proportion to the rest of the range. Oh, and that head. I'm honestly not to fussed with the zombies. Now, Bat Swarms, Fellbats, Spirit Hosts? For the love of Nagash, give us some new models already.

I really doubt that militia will get redone. They are a great set as is, and the mordheim players(yes they still exist) buy them in droves.
It is a shame that the huge hands zombies are here to stay.

Especially considering the quite lovely proportions and sculpts on the corpse cart zombies.

All of the new VC stuff is really well proportioned. They actually look like skeletons, not people in skeleton costumes like practically every other undead range. They didn't even get it right on their new Tomb Kings stuff.
