Subject: Necron Unit Feedback

So, in the middle of the night last night, I was dreaming about Necrons. They're dreamy...
Anyway.
What do you guys think of this unit?
HQ-
Obyron 160pts
Trazyn 175pts
== 335
Fast Attack-
6xWraiths with Transdimensional Beamers = 250
= 585
The idea here is that Obyron ports around this (now scoring) unit with his Ghostwalk Mantle, while the now relentless wraiths shoot their 6 exile ray shots every turn at anything super annoying. Should they get charged, Oby pulls them out of combat and they do more Exile Ray shots. (I imagine Grey Knight Paladins would hate this, 4 hits, anyone rolling a 5 or 6 removed as a casulty with no saves allowed (including invuls))
It's a lot of points... but would be a fun thing to try.

I really wanted this to be a viable strategy, since I really wanted the Beamer to be useful in some situation, somewhere, but... I'm just not sure if there are really any reasonable targets out there that would make this worth that sort of investment. On average you'll smoke... what, just over one Paladin? (or equivalent terminator type model.) I suppose it does a bit better against really tough but low-Str squads like a Seer Council or the like.
Hmm. Anyone can auto-fail characteristic tests on a 6, right? If I'm remembering that correctly, I suppose it could be handy against monstrous creatures, or dreadnoughts or the like - if you hit around 4 times, you've got a decent chance of one of those tests auto-failing, and wiping even the scariest guy off the map.
Admittedly, with the teleporting-scoring ability added in, and the unit having some decent durability and solid melee power, it feels a bit more viable. But it still feels like a lot of points in one place, and not much to do with them if the enemy doesn't have any prime targets for them to go after.

I personally feel like obyron would be wasting his ghostwalk mantle on this unit. Since the wraiths are jump infantry that are never slowed by terrain and auto pass dangerous terrain i would rather put obyron in a slow moving unit that shoots and have the wraiths move on their own since they are a fairly speedy unit!

Victory is not the most important outcome. Enjoyment and excitement is the best outcome, victory is sweeter when it was fun. |

I created a 2500 list with this unit and Nemesor with a Deathstar court. Haven't had a chance to play with it yes but I'll post it sometime soon. My idea was right along what you posted. Mobile, scoring unit that could make anything in the game (minus vehicles) disappear. I stuck alot of anti vehicle into the court so it could can open what ever I wanted my T-beamers shooting at. Also the big court gives Trazyn models to jump into, so in effect the whole blob is scoring.
Hmm. Anyone can auto-fail characteristic tests on a 6, right?
Yes that is correct, so even a naught or MS has an odds on statistical chance of disappearing after one volley. Really this unit would be quite deadly against a lot of list. Another thing to keep in mind is you certainly don't have to keep Obyron and Trazyn around once you get the wraiths in assault range. Also another nifty thing I noticed is Trazyn through his respawn ability and Obyron through his defend Nemesor ability could both very easily end up in the court star.
I think it has potential, but needs to be in a big point allowance game to make it all work, and it would be smashing fun to make things like Hiveys and Mephiston disappear in one volley. Fair point, but the ghostwalk mantle is literally the only way to make the unit mechanic work, as crypteks can't be attached to wraiths.

You also need to attach a Phaeron to the unit to make the Wraiths relentless, otherwise they can't move and shoot their 12" T-Beamers (as they're heavy 1 exile ray).
So, the only way the unit functions is the way it's been posted. You can dump Trazyn in favour of a 110 or 120 point foot lord. (Staff of Light & Phaeron, or Warcythe & Phaeron).

Trazyn has some nice benefits, like adding scoring ability, the empathic obliterator (this unit shouldn't be hunting hordes, though), and he doesn't like to give up his kill point.
This is an interesting idea, a bonafide terminator eater. The most effective thing against my brother's termies so far was the gate on my monolith, and it was pretty much luck I survived that whole melee. The beamers would do the trick more effectively.
