In episode 94 the third chair is filled by Owen Staton. Owen Staton is a Welsh Storyteller, actor and writer who has been a Gamer for 28 years. He has been a long time contributor to the D6 Generation through his segments "Words from Wales." Recently he published a CD of his own Stories from Welsh folklore called "Tales from the New Inn". He is handsome in a rugged sort of way and has a morbid fear of Taxidermy.

It's been awhile since we disucess miniature games so we decided to discuss three new miniature releases that have been active in our local gaming groups. Russ discusses his thoughts on Warmachine Wrath (with a few comments on Hordes Domination), Owen shares his thoughts on the Warhammer Fantsay Battles campaign book "Badlands" and Craig gives us his thoughts after a couple plays of the new miniature war game Mercs.

But first the crew discusses their top gaming related moments of 2011.

All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:

- The Hollywood Minute
- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- & More

Just finished listening to the 2011 review segment. Great episode so far and Owen is a great 3rd chair host.

I also just finished the look back at 2011 segment, and also am really enjoying Owen as 3rd chair. Very entertaining stuff.

But, sheesh, Craig and his name dropping! Just who does this guy think he is? Oh, wait...I know...Craig Gallant.

Did you guys know I met Craig Gallant at Gen Con? Yup! THE Craig Gallant!

;-) Just joshin' ya, CG.

I was pretty excited to hear that Craig is playing some Warhammer Fantasy. Honestly, it's sort of refreshing. I've only gotten into the game myself in this past year, despite being a gamer since 1980, and I dig it.

Also excited to hear Owen say that Pathfinder RPG was his main game of 2011. This is also a game I've just gotten into since Gen Con last summer, and love it.

Lastly, for now, Russ - you've gushed a couple of times now on different episodes about the Summoner Wars Master Set (which IS fantastic). How about sending the Plaid Hat guys some love and doing a full D6 review of Summoner Wars?

Thanks guys! I'll probably be back after I finish the ep.

A chair is only as useful as what it holds up and I'd say you held up the show quite well.

Apologies, Owen. It would be better stated that I enjoyed hearing you "in the third chair"... ;-)

Another great episode ! Owens awesome , he did an audio story of a famous 1979 Zulu battle I believe in an episode of the old this week in war gaming podcast . He can tell a story , gonna have to pick up his story cd . Owen if you read this post you should make that Zulu audio story available it pushed me to paint entire Zulu and British army . Great episode . The third chair works very well keeping the show fresh with a new point of view. Keep up the good work and happy new year to the d6 and their families.

An excellent episode lads! The Welsh windbag works really well as the third chair. I look forward to more Cymric interjections soon. I appreciate the time difference makes recording difficult though - after all the sun doesn't rise in Welsh Wales until three hours after the rest of the UK, it's all the valleys, see?! And am I the only one who when hearing Owen's voice sees Rob Bryden's face talking? Mind you, he would have lightened up an episode of Jackanory if he'd been around back then

Seriously though, joking aside, a truly great episode.

For me I think the secret amounts to two issues:

Firstly the topic was mainly miniatures gaming, which interests me much more than board gaming, and secondly, there 3 of you made a truly great mix of hosts. For my money this was a result of the transatlantic dissonance (you need a bit of UK dry sarcasm and wit to balance all the US over-enthusiasm!) and Owen's ability to overtalk even Russ, the master over-talker!

Thanks for the all the efforts, and now I'm off to spend the money I saved through not purchasing Blood in the Badlands - on an Owen Staton CD....

I haven't been a big fan of Words from Wales...I don't know why, it might be the way he is doing his...er...lyrical monologueing? But as a co-host and reviewer, Owen really works well! Definitely the best co-host so far, and I would love seeing him in the chair in the future.

Hi Guys

Just a quick note to thank everyone for their lovely comments on this board since the episode came out . It is really wonderful to have you talk about the episode in such glowing terms and once again I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I have only ever tried to entertain and if i have inspired you to take up a project or listen to an episode then I am truly humbled. As far as I am concerned the time zones is not a problem, i am willing to put the hours in and of course in a month or two british summer time kicks in which brings us an hour closer together. Its up to the D6G really but I am happy to be back whenever they want me.

Again Diolch for your kind words everyone it really means a lot.

It's more Rhod Gilbert for me (unless Owen does a good Ronny Corbet)! Good episode chaps. After a few industry people, it was good to have a "fan" back again. Perhaps it will be best to alternate the third chair between industry and players going forwards so we get the best of both worlds.

Here's a potential topic for you: Faction hetrogeneity, or how do you stop different factions only being differentiated by their hats.

That's it, cancel the rest of the third chair hosts and just get Owen from now on! He was a great fit with the dynamic of the show.

Owen is fantastic! I laughed so hard I was in tears. Long time gamer and dakka forum reader, but I finally registered just to let you know I vote you keep him.

HI there, I have been a long long term listener to the show, but just wanted to add how brilliant Owen was on the show. In fact, I have made an account and joined the forum just to say it.

I am a bit ambivalent towards words from wales, sometimes its great (the story done about the inn and the fairy creatures was a high point) and sometimes it doesn't hit the mark, but Owen was brilliant as the 3rd chair.

Please keep him as a host, say once in every 4 episodes?

(I also really enjoyed the last episode review of Game of Thrones, with Stephen playing it separately to Russ and Craig - made for a really interesting review).

Just finished listening to the episode. Ten minutes in the thought occurred to me, "Owen is a great fit, they should get him on permanently." Shortly followed by, "oh wait, it's past 2am." Then every time Owen gave an update on the time I laughed, because of his tone of voice, and then felt disappointed because it reminded me why he couldn't be a regular host.

I've been listening to the D6G since episode 5. The reason I stick with podcasts is the chemistry between the hosts. The Russ, Craig and Raef mix was one of my favorite podcast "casts" but Russ, Craig and Owen might just top that.

Obviously this means Raef and Owen need to appear on more shows to help me make up my mind.

Great show, it was the first one that I'd listened to and it took my mind of the mundanity of painting the dineing room.
