What planets fell to Chaos that are most recent and not from the 13th Crusade or were seized back in the day.

I taught that the only thing they were doing at the moment was camping on cadia but that's probably not the only place they are outside the eye of terror

Gereon was liberated over 200 years ago by the current timeline.

There's whole systems under the control of the Arch-Enemy in the Deathwatch and Rogue Trader game systems from FFG, in the Jericho Reach and Kronus Expanse, respectively.

So how do they have Cadia... I thought it was so protected and un breachable... Especially to have so much of it. I can see maybe small raiding parties but so much of the country is under Chaos control?

And what is the deal with that map? Are the Chaos strongholds planets?

They landed on the planet with the biggest black crusade they ever had done. ( I think It's the 13th)
They landed upon the planet but their fleet was destroyed by the Imperial navy and because of that, they're kinda stuck. But the cadians can't drive them of the planet. :(

They can also do nothing at all about the massive amount of supplies that would be required for chaos to retain their "enclave".
Someone needs to tell these elite crack soldiers to shoot down the enemy aircraft.

I was under the impression that while the Chaos forces controlled most of the Northern Hemisphere of Cadia, Imperial forces had complete air and space dominance?

That would lead to the assumption that the Chaos forces won't be able to launch another external offensive on the planet for some time.

Well, the way I heard it, what actually happened is that GW was going to let the tournaments decide the future of 40K.... but then Team Chaos handily whooped the butts of everyone else and had, technically, completely blown open the Cadian Gate.

GW, of course, can't have such a radical change in their fluff, so they created the current situation through the magic of ret-con. Cadia all but fell to Chaos, though the various cities and such are still fighting street-to-street and such, but Chaos lost its orbital support.

In this sort of situation, without means to resupply or replenish troops, Chaos will eventually lose its grip on Cadia (unless another fleet comes through the Eye to regain air superiority), but that would require GW to actually advance the storyline, which will never happen.

The Cadians are good, don't ever think they aren't, but when your planet has a half a million drop pods disgorging legions of things like the Blood Pact and the Sons of Sek, as well as Traitor Marines, Dark Mechanicus, Daemons and xeno mercenaries.... well, it's only a matter of time, really.

Actually they have around 80% to 85% of the planet. They just get lucky, capture the moment when 90% of all Cadian Regiments were somewhere in the galaxy.
But they lost battle in space and don't have any mean to reinforce their forcess on the planet, while Imperial reinforcements are coming.

For actual information from GW about what actually happened in the 13th Black Crusade, see:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/392010.page

The WD results are posted verbatim. It is hard to have a discussion about a topic when there is so much apparent misinformation or misremembered information floating around.

Furthermore, if one refers to GW's Apocalypse rulebook, one can see that Abaddon once more has a functional Planet Killer and is out of the Cadian Gate, and is in the Thesus Sector.

Before anyone raises the point about the battle report not being canon, the battle report about the Battle for Cold Steel Ridge is also in that book and has been incorporated into the canon in both the latest SM and Tyranid Codex, thus there is precedent for the events described by these reports being made canon.

They are some of the most heavily defended areas of Chaos Space, you'd need quite the hefty army and fleet - something that the Imperium just can't spare in the current times.

Noone is comming. The cadian gate is, just like the Gothic sector in the 12. Black Crusade, engulfed by warpstorms which make both communications and travel increasingly difficult.
As per the 13. Black Crusade backgroundbook Quarren's fleet, although broadly victorious over the various chaos admirals, suffered very heavy casualties in the battle against the Blackstone Fortress over Cadia.
The people on the ground ( or at least the general from whose perspective the book is written ) assume that the war could continue for a long time.
Tbh i have no idea how GW plans to end the 13. Black Crusade without antagonising large parts of their fanbase.

Part of the rumours for 6th edition were that GW was going to make the game more oriented towards Chaos. I don't believe it, but if the rumors are true, it's possible that seizing Cadia would be a big plot twist.

Suddenly Chaos would be a much bigger force in the fluff, and imperial players would feel a lot more heroic and righteous

Yeah tell that to the ghoul stars. The Chaos Forces would be like oh no as the xenos empires slaughtered them. the only places I know that are not chaos possessed at all are the ghoul stars because of the Xenos empires there.

Not only that but I do consider some parts of ultramar under chaos control as the ultramarines book does state there is going to be another Battle of Macragge except against chaos. Which implies. The cadian gate is broken through.

Of course I am neutral in this because the fluff I write is outrageous.

Well if you read some of the novels on Chaos, Storm of Iron which I'm currently reading, it talks about some of the planets under their control. Storm of Iron is the only chaos focused 40k book there is actually, (i'm pretty sure) might want to check it out.

The Sabbat worlds are under dispute right now. Really it seems that outside the Eye of Terror, Lost and the Damned/Heretic groups tend to rule over world and be the main opponent whereas around/in the EoT it's dominated by CSM.

If it's all based around the GW-run campaigns, it's because the Order players can't seem to pull their heads out and get an effective battleplan going. Of course, this is rather true in-universe as well. The Imperium is plagued with petty politicking.

I'm reading a word bearers omnibus atm. I think there's some others but they might not be directly centered around chaos warbands.
