Hi, I joined a little bit ago, but I never really got around to posting.
I have been a fan of Warhammer since I was about fourteen. Back then I started out by buying random miniatures and building them and attempting to paint them. Until recently, I could never actually afford to get into the tabletop game, just being a fan of spinoff games and fluff. I just purchased and put together the Assault on Black Reach set about a month ago, I also got Njal Stormcaller as a gift just a few days back. So I am a new player just looking to get into a community to make friends and keep learning.
I havent actually played yet, because the only store near me only has warhammer games going every other Saturday, but I look forward to going this week.
The army I am really wanting to play is Space Wolves. I have a huge love for Norse Mythology and viking culture/history, so they really stand out to me.

I have a couple questions, and I am not sure if I should make a new thread elsewhere for them, so I will state them here first.
The first one is, can I somehow convert or use the Space Marines in AoBR as Space Wolves? I have heard that the answer is pretty much no, but I wanted to make sure.

I really want to play Space Wolves, and I almost got the battleforce in stead of AoBR, but my friend swore he wanted to learn with me. Well now he doesn't and I am kind of stuck with this.
Do you guys think I should learn the game with it, or trade it for an equivalent amount of Space Wolves?
What would you guys consider and equal trade, if there was one? I haven't checked the trade section here yet, though I doubt anyone would want a starter set, that was already put together no less.

Well anyways, sorry for the lengthy intro, which was really just questions. I hope to be a regular around here soon.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to DakkaDakka!

I bet no one else even read your post! They are just trying to higher their post count.
In answer to your questions; Even painting the SM in the AOBR set will make them space wolves, no? In short Yes you can! There are Space Wolf transfers in the AOBR set I think.
Or with a little bit of green stuff and some Space Wolf parts you could do this!

NOT MINE. Some in the pic above are from the AOBR set. They look fine!
Here Is where I found them; GREAT Insperation for you!http://www.westgamer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8935
Keep the AOBR marines they are different but I like them!

Hi and welcome to Dakka! The main thing you need to understand is that you ca pretty much do whatever you want with this hobby. Find the right balance of being strict and not with your modelling and painting and just have fun with it!

Also for nothing else, keep AoBR for the rulebook and templates. The book alone has all of the 5th edition rules, which if you bought the bigger version would cost you close to 60.
