I was having a look at my new Burning Empires Book, and I had look at the SAS squadron, 20 jeeps at 1000 points, plus some MG's attached to them. I was just curious on how this army would play against other mid war armies. Cause I thought It was a EW list. But against MW tanks and AT's. I'm just concerned on how this army would act in a competitive state. Or is this army just really for scenario type of games. And what I mean by Scenario games, is that the game is setup with certain types of rules and restriction on what each person can take and have. Any input would be nice.

Cheers

Simon

Are you looking at a Raiding Force? Because it sounds like you're looking at one of the many raiding forces in Burning Empires.

I would imagine that it would do alright against infantry or mech lists. But most of the raiding lists will get curbstomped by enemy armor lists.

Its not designed to play against "actual" armies. Its designed to go against other raiding party lists, and more importantly, playing the raiding party scenarios.

The raiding forces lists can be used in EW and MW, but are primarily geared towards fighting other raiding forces and using the raiding forces scenarios in Burning Empires. A 1000 point SAS squadron would get completely flattened against a 1000 point armored list and while it might do OK against a 1000 point mechanized or infantry force it would still be kind of small and specialized for an out-out battle with those regular lists.

Does the list have access to smoke bombardments in any form? That's usually how you run a small elite force. Smoke and assault. if I recall SAS are good at blowing up tanks in assault.

Not really much by way of artillery support due to the fact that SAS was hit and fade. Trying to recall specifically, but I am guessing there should be some minimal mortar smoke, but not any real solid capability to throw smoke. Their job was to rush in, get the job done and get out, and not to be around long enough to need artillery support.

Mortar smoke is probably all you need, you just need to cover your guys as they rush in and kill things.

Just to follow up...was checking the list last night and the SAS patrols get *zero* support of any kind for smoke or artillery. So definitely will be tough to succeed with them against non-raiding forces at the same points total.

The only way you can play against non-raiding forces is if you're playing a Raiding Mission.

The Raiding Missions have built in ways to even out the fact that you have a raiding force attacking a full army. Usually the Garrison force will have a lot less stuff on the table to start, or none at all, and reserves will trickle in.

Meanwhile, the raiding force should have access to interdiction raids, which can delay enemy reinforcements.

Raiding games overall are fast and furious, being over in 1 hour or so.
