Hi There.

You have the making of a strong list, but i would change a few things.

Firstly, the assault terminators. With Vulkan's chapter tactics, all TH become master crafted (re-roll failed hits). I know its appealing to have some LC in a term squad, cause they reroll failed wounds, but i think TH SS would be a better setup cause you get the added bonus of a +3 invunerable save.

Sternguard are awesome. i have 10 myself but don't, for god sake, put a heavy flamer on them. Its all well and good having re-roll failed wounds, but if your close enough to drop a template on them, your likely to be charged, meaning all that time you were just out of range, you actually dont benifit from it. With the special ammo, i'd take combi-flamers. They are single use (Use when in range, and use the boltgun at further range). it would save some points.

A personal thing here, i dont particularly like the missile launcher on the drop pod, it doesn't appeal to me.

With the points you save from the sternguard list, you could add a heavy flamer to your second terminator squad (i assume they are PF + Storm Bolter dudes)

To stick with the theme, swap out the missile launcher in the tactical squad and put a MM. Might suit you better with twin linked bonus from Vulkan. But, if you want to keep them for the range, do so. (Its what i do )

I have run many a game with sniper scouts, and can honestly say, avoid them. All of the games i have played with them, they get shot to bits and dont even kill anything. The one time they did, the forced a squad of Dark Reapers to go to ground, thats like 1 useful thing in like 20 games. Dont bother with them.

All in all, you have a good start to your list.
Well Done!

IMO, you have a very good list. I run a list very similar to this, but without the sternguard, but i have 5 more snipers, Tellion, and a Vindy. Don't bother with 5 snipers, they don't do jack squat unless there is 10. if there IS ten, then they are incredible, i have taken out a whole army in one turn with 10 snipers, a Vindy, two tactical squads and Vulkan and the chief librarian dude (too lazy to go upstairs to get my 'dex to spell it right). at it was an IG army. Good list though.

1000-2500 W-5 L-0 T-2

Thanks for the advice. If I had spare thunder hammers and storm shields, I'd use them, but at the moment I'm skint broke and only have the sergeant with TH/SS. You're right about the termies, they're the AOBR ones though, and I don't have a spare heavy flamer. The sternguard were designed more for fluffiness than super-destructiveness, otherwise I'd run them with 8 combi-meltas and a couple of combi-flamers. The idea with the sternguard is that they ride in the drop pod with Vel'Cona and possibly Vulkan, drop somewhere near either a vehicle or heavy infantry, and proceed to alpha strike them. That's if I get the first turn. If I don't, I'll let the enemy advance and try and drop pod behin them. The deathwind missile launcher is there to help with crowd control, as well as being a nuisance to anything near it. If I don't run Vulkan in that squad, he rides in the LRR with the assault termies, who I WILL be chaging to TH/SS sometime in the future when I have a spare $74. But, bring a university student, that's not going to happen for a while

You're right about the scouts, I wasn't sure what to take with the spare ~130 points, I may change that to a vindicator (again, money issues :/)

The cool thing about Vel'Cona (well, Tigurius, but you get the point) is that he can use three powers a turn, which I can use to my advantage to gate of infinity my sterguard across the table; make them more survivable if necessary with force dome; if it comes to combat or assaulting a tank, he can punch it with Might of the Ancients, or shoot stuff with smite or the avenger. But usually it's gate, force dome, and smite unless something comes up.

To save money on the TH/SS termies, can you just buy the TH and the SS and then snap off the arms of the current termies and swap it like that??

thats what i'd be inclined to do

To be honest, I think your list need some work.

What the hell are you taking tigurius for? He has a single useful ability, manipulating reserves. A lot of people have probably toyed with the idea of taking him in a vulkan drop pod list, since they often have a regular librarian, you can get more accurate and faster pods for just 130pts. But amazingly you have only a single pod and it's always going to come down on t1 anyway as per the rules. So for you he's just an overpriced librarian.

If you still want to do it, I think you'll need to absolutely maximize your value for points in every other area. Drop the scouts and get more hard-hitting pods. Sternguard or dreads or MAYBE even terminators, but drop the raider. Fill up FA with MMHF speeders or attack bikes. Just go balls to the wall and hit them with every meltagun and flamer in the book on t1-2.

Try it out and see if you need another tactical squad or if you can use tigurius to hold them back (give them all pods) until the game is mostly over. Probably you'll get more use out of multimeltas than missiles.

Right now you've got two foot tactical squads, some admittedly reliable termies and like what 1000pts invested in sternguard. The scouts to infiltrate and deploy homing beacon, the sternguard, tigurius and maybe even vulkan. What happens when you face so many pieplates (two) that you can't take them all out t1? Like the IG with a basilisk in each corner or the IG with manticores, or the IG with tanks or the marines/BA/chaos marines with vindicators?

edit: also welcome to the site...

How many replies before someone mentioned the elephant.

I quite like Tigurius but I fully admit he is a waste of points and too easy to kill.
Removing the standard termies and Tigurius, you have very, very average and risky 1500pt Vulkan list.

You raider is a huge target, the single drop pod has lots of points invested in its success, get some transportation for your troops to mention just a few big holes in your list.

If you fun list take a list that all comes on turn 2, this is a great use of Tigurius.

I guess the quickest way to improve your list is to make it into a drop pod list. Then you'll want Combimelta and CML/assault cannon for the termies.

Welcome to here, sorry for not liking the list

If you'd bothered to read my reply, I don't have any more TH/SS, nor the money to get any for a while. Hence the lightning claws.
